Seem pretty damn good to me. I watched Cotto vs Pac a few days ago, Sky and HBO, much preferred Sky's version. Lampley calls shots that don't land way too much.
Depends if theres a British guy involved or not. If its a Brit vs a foreigner, it can be painful to watch. Unless the British guys gets KO'd....twice, the SKY guys will call it for the British guy. If they have no dog in the game, they're quite good
I'm in the U.S., but I also usually prefer Sky's commentary also. You are very right about Lampley; sometimes Lamps is so far off that I wonder if he or HBO has an agenda to support certain fighters. Pac vs Marquez 3 was horrendous.
Jim Watt is terrible. Like, horrific. Constant interruptions regarding his horrible biased opinion. HBO are at least informed, if nothing else.
Agree. They tend to get a sh it on by a lot of UK viewers but IMO they're night and day above the American goons Jim Watt's excellent, but he's been going senile for a while. His passion totally added to the epicness that was Coralles Castillo
I grew up in the UK, and now live in the US - and I have to say, the UK commentators are definitely biased, but it can go both ways. For example, in the way that STB mentioned above, but ALSO they can be really critical of the UK fighter in a way that they wouldn't be of an international fighter - critical in the way that a parent would be or something if that makes sense. The Kell Brook vs Shawn Porter fight is a good example - I watched it in the UK, first fight I have seen over there in a while, and they were convinced that Porter was winning, whereas I was sure that Kell had it. It took me right back to being a kid though, as that nerviness was always a characteristic that I remember from the big fights I saw in te UK growing up- I enjoy that kind of spirited commentary - it made it more exciting for me hearing them freaking out! It's not accurate, but it's kinda fun.
Terrible, the newish guy they use called halling is about as bad as one can get. and Watt is senile now so he keeps losing the plot.
I'm a Brit but I prefer US commentary in general. Jim Watt is awful, seems to play favourites a lot and tends to only comment on what he wants to see and happily ignores everything else.
Jim Watt is awful, he simply cannot score a fight. His scottish drone is also dreadful to listen to, he should be put out to pasture. I prefered it when it was Ian Darke and Glenn McCrory. Johnny Nelson is good as well but he is more of a presenter/pundit than a commentator. nelsons one of the few guys whose seen his media profile increase after he retired, very unusual... When watching a U.S. show, I much prefer the U.S. commentaters.
There not bad, I used to enjoy Ian Darke. Jim Watt tends to choose a fighter he likes before the fight and it's as if he only see them fighting ... Maybe it's just we like something different because I do tend to prefer showtimes presenters... not a huge fan of HBO always feel there bias.
Paul Smith is a good commentator, Nelson is a good presenter, I like Haye as a pundit too, same with Arthut but Froch is a poor pundit and Watt and Mccrory are shocking commentators in my opinion.
I think there are shots that get through (scoring punches) that are hard to spot on TV and easier to spot ringside. I don't think our commentators are up to much either. Boxing has a history of great writers but apart from Al Bernstein we don't have great announcers.
