Many people could tell that by watching the Klitschkos in their respective bouts vs Chris Byrd. Byrd could more or less stay away from Vitali, but Wladimir was on him like stink on ship.
True that. Wladimir was the highest rated contender for 2 years(!!) back in 2001-2002. Lewis just dropped in my eyes.
Good matchup, I think prime Lennox wins 6 out of 10 times to 2005-2006 Wlad. Loses 6 out of 10 times to 2010-2012 Wlad.
They're different fights. Both use their range and reach very good. Both are smart, but that's about the only similarity between the two. Wlads punches are sharper and harder. He has faster hands and feet. There is a VERY real chance Lewis gets knocked the f**k out in this one. And I think he knew it even in 2002:good Why would he bother calling Corrie Sanders before he fought Wlad?? Lewis wasn't buddies with Sanders:think I mean if Wladimir was such an easy fight, why not hope Sanders loses and cash out with an easy 20 mil on that walk in the park??? Deep down Lewis knew Wladimir would be a serious threat to him. Even back then
People really don't think Wlad would be ready for Lewis' aggression and fire back with bomb counters of his own?? Wladimirs punches aren't Vitali's. Lewis would get hit harder than he did against Rahman.
Both clearly can KO the other as neither had great chins and both hit like a mack truck. But to simply view it as 50/50 fight with a scenario where whoever lands first wins is a vast over simplification of a potential match up. Both are of a similar size, speed, power and even style as both were trained by Steward, but there are differences. While both boxed well from range, Lewis showed he had an extra dimension, he showed when he couldn't just dominate from range in fights with Bruno, Mercer and Vitali, he could fight well for a big man in mid and close range. If Wlad outboxes Lewis, Lewis can take the fight to Wlad, if Wlad is outboxed by Lewis is has nothing to counter this possibility, we have never seen Wlad have to stalk or out brawl an opponent. Also looking at their records against big men it's clear Lewis has an advantage. When Lewis fought similar sized opponents or taller like Akinwande, Grant, Golota, Briggs and Tucker he tended to dominate. Tucker was the only man to go the distance and Vitali was the only big man to give him trouble and this was against a past prime and ill prepared Lewis not the prime lewis in this hypothetical match up. Wlad on the other hand has tended to do far better against smaller men who he could use his size against. Wlad struggled with Williamson and was even dropped, was KO'ed by Sanders, went 10 rounds with McCline, the distance with Wach and 11 rounds by Thompson. The only big man Wlad ever blew away early was Austin. While the difference is small their is a difference in how both coped with big men of 6'4" and above. So Lewis has to be a favourite. Wlad has a punchers chance but Lewis has more ways to win, he can adapt to Wlad, while Wlad hasn't shown he can so the same and Wlad's style suits Lewis more than Lewis suits his. Lewis barring a mistake like against McCall or over confidence like against Rahman wins via KO, very likely early.
No he won't. Wlad deals with aggression by clinching. Wlad is terrified of throwing his right hand until his opponent is helpless. AND In the clinch, Lewis mauls him. Lewis can take Wlad's punches better than Wlad can take Lewis'. Lewis was more accurate and tested against a much higher caliber of opposition. Wlad is not a smart fighter. He has no plan B, he does not adapt. Lewis did.
