I have him right behind Louis in the top ten rankings. I truly believe that he would beat a prime Ali and I know that he is the best HW I have seen in my lifetime. Outside the ring, he was a bit of a ****, but he was living in the shadow of Ali. How could he not be bitter that he was so good and yet so unloved?
In rough chronological order: -Shameful performance in the Olympics -Some felt lost to Ken Norton -Beat up on the walking dead version of Ali -Some felt he lost to Witherspoon -Abandoned a belt rather than fight Greg Page -Also openly ducked Pinklon Thomas -Some felt he lost to Carl Williams -Lost twice to a light heavyweight -Made an ass out of himself talking trash to Marciano's brother -Continues to talk trash about Wlad Klit when his own ****py reign was padded with names like Leroy Jones, Tex Cobb, and David Bey Take your pick.
IMO he was robbed both times against Spinks, and to be honest im pretty sure he would have beat marciano... i have the feeling that larry most of the time is just brutally honest lol
Holmes was one of the most talented heavyweights during a very weak era plus at the time heavyweights did more posturing during a round than punching. It was just not a good time for heavyweights, by far worse than it is now. If Holmes was in his prime now he could win a belt but he would not dominate the era.
He was always jealous of Ali which was good because Holmes always fought like a ****ed off version of Ali, fun to watch. But he never had Ali's wit. ****ey is no Marciano. Holmes wouldn't carry Rock's jockstrap.
