Akinwande - McCall - an obscure HW fight

    The fight was on the Lewis - Rahman2 undercard. It wasn't televised, so there was only footage of last round and KO.

    It was a good, quality fight.

    Henry dominated rounds 1-4, but then McCall started to pressure him.

    Few things about the fight:

    1) Akinwande had good skills, excellent jab and nice footwork.

    2) McCall was easy to outbox when his opponent uses jab and moves well

    3) McCall had advantage in power, chin, strength and stamina

    Funny thing: Akinvande caught McCall in the 2nd rd by left hook (off-balance). If not the ropes, McCall would have been knocked down though he wasn't hurt.

    I've scored the fight 6-3 or 5-4 for Akinwande, but McCall won most of late rounds.

    The KO was great, McCall caught him with the great punch (like he did vs Lennox).

    Write your thoughts after watching the fight:good

    I wonder how much more interesting Lewis - Akinwande fight could've been if Henry wasn't scared to death. Anyway, Lewis woud've won it.

    Both a bit past their best here.

    Akinwande had quick feet for such a big guy, good jab...potentially a dangerous, tough to beat heavyweight if he hadn't been so weak mentally.

    I have the atomic bull in my top ten, personally.

    Observation…

    It's funny how really tall guys can't get leverage on their punches unless their feet are planted in cement whereas shorter guys can blast on the move.

    It's something that sets guys like Hearns, Lewis and Waldo (and a few others) apart.

    That's a good point. The time it takes to plant and throw while at relatively close range makes them vulnerable. Of course the less than stellar chins of these three hurt them as well.

    I haven't watched it recently but thought Akinwande was well ahead.

    Poor Henry, had that big shot at Holyfield that would likely have put him on the map as the style was all wrong for an old Holyfield, but then got diagnosed with hepatitis.

    Top 10?

    I don't think Akinwande had the strength or infighting to keep Lewis off him and McCall to a lesser degree. If someone polished his infighting he'd be a monster.

    Top Ten might just be me erring on the side of caution tbf.

    Top five h2h certainly.Can you imagine Marciano, Dempsey or Tunney in with the prime Atomic Bull of the Lewis bout?.....early knockouts every single one.

    I know many argue that Henry should've scored a KD vs Lennox (off balance, too, and Lane missed the call)

    And he could've been the only one man to KD iron chinned McCall officially (though Oliver wasn't even hurt)
