Terry was a badass mf. He preferred to trade but could box flawlessly like in the simon brown rematch.
He was undoubtedly talented but I'm not sure if he had the temperament to be an ATG. He was disqualified 3 times and was always a bit reckless and trading when he shouldn't have. If he had an iron chin he may have been a different fighter, less the boxer more the brawler. With these hypothetical scenarios you never know what else will change once one attribute or result as been altered.
He would still have some DQ losses due to just being a knucklehead in the ring. It kind of depends on if Norris moved up to MW, which was extremely talented during Norris's prime. Sometimes fighters can be ATGs staying in one division, but it's more rare in more modern times, especially looking at the 154 lb. division in the 90s. Norris was kind of small for 154 so he would have been very small for 160, but that's where a lot of talent was and there was a lot of talk at the time of people wanting to see Norris fight the top fighters at 160. Just look at this talent pool in the early 90s. It's kind of sad how few matchups took place with this sort of talent. This was no late 70s/early 90s LHW division. http://boxrec.com/media/index.php/The_Ring_Magazine's_Annual_Ratings:_Middleweight--1990s 1990) 1.Michael Nunn 2.Julian Jackson 3.Sumbu Kalambay 4.Mike McCallum 5.Steve Collins 6.Chris Eubank 7.Roberto Duran 8.Michael Watson 9.Nigel Benn 10.Reggie Johnson 1991) 1.James Toney 2.Mike McCallum 3.Julian Jackson 4.Sumbu Kalambay 5.Roy Jones Jr. 6.Steve Collins 7.Reggie Johnson 8.Lamar Parks 9.Segundo Mercado 10.Gerald McClellan 1992) 1.Julian Jackson 2.James Toney 3.Reggie Johnson 4.Roy Jones Jr. 5.Mike McCallum 6.Sumbu Kalambay 7.Gerald McClellan 8.Lamar Parks 9.Bernard Hopkins 10.Thomas Tate 1993) 1.Roy Jones Jr. 2.Gerald McClellan 3.John David Jackson 4.Reggie Johnson 5.Julian Jackson 6.Thomas Tate 7.Lamar Parks 8.Bernard Hopkins 9.Vinny Pazienza 10.Otis Grant 1994) 1.Gerald McClellan 2.Jorge Fernando Castro 3.Bernard Hopkins 4.John David Jackson 5.Reggie Johnson 6.Quincy Taylor 7.Segundo Mercado 8.Steve Collins 9.Joe Lipsey 10.Agostino Cardamone
Very talented, athletically gifted, but his temperament was his strength and his weakness. He's a popular and top 154lber no doubt, but he falls short vs the real elite like Jackson and Hearns were at that weight as atgs. One of the best offenses and could box very well when he wanted. I don't like his chances vs punchers like Tito, Vargas, or even a young Rj, tho.
