Exactly. Clottey lost the fight for himself by throwing nothing that last 3 rounds. You can't win championships that way.
On first watch, I thought Cotto edged it round wise, but I honestly thought Clottey won his rounds more convincingly and beat him up.
You can if you've banked enough rounds. It's a 10 point scoring system used in professional boxing. The last 3 rounds aren't worth more points than the first 3 rounds.
I watched this fight yesterday and scored it. Round 1 - Cotto (10-8 ) Round 2 - Even (leaning Clottey) Round 3 - Cotto (close) Round 4 - Cotto Round 5 - Clottey (should've been 10-8 ) Round 6 - Cotto Round 7 - Clottey Round 8 - Clottey Round 9 - Even (leaning Clottey) Round 10 - Cotto Round 11 - Even (leaning Cotto) Round 12 - Cotto (close) My score: 117- 113 in favor of Cotto, 6-3 in rounds with 3 even. If you want no even rounds: 115-112 in favor of Cotto If you want to take the point off Cotto for throwing, it's 114-113 I think they got the right winner and I think he'd have won even more clearly without the cut.
Close fight. Not a robbery. Could have called it a point win for either man if I recall. (Or a draw for that matter) Fight was competitive and close. I also recall Clottey fading down the stretch, and that cost him.
Clottey was doing really well but he gave that fight away in the last 2 rounds. Could not cut the ring off.
