In the past 9 months I have got the career sets of Chong Pal Park and In-Chul Baek. Fighters w/ a fan friendly style who were in exciting fights. The fight between the two of them is a real donnybrook (maybe because Park was past it, or maybe not), in which both fight to exhaustion and trade punches until Park can take no more. I really like watching these two fight each other and other opponents and wander if anyone else saw their match. It is a great fight.
Their fight is on you tube. Both guys struck out in their natural weight divisions but did well at 168. I would like to see Fully Obel-Park II. It is not on youtube but their first fight is. What did you think of their second fight? I know Obel dropped Park a few times and won a decision.
Chong Pal Park was the Supermiddleweight division's innaugural WBA champ 85', wasn't he? Just as Sugar Ray Leonard 88' was for the WBC, Tommy Hearns 88' was for the WBO, Murray Sutherland 84' was for the IBF and Joe Calzghe 07' was the Lineal/Ring title?
Yes and no. According to boxrec, Park was awarded the inaugural WBA champ in Dec. 1987 without having to fight anyone for it.
Also. Have you seen the second Park-Lindell Holmes fight. Reports at the time were that Holmes was robbed. I looked at boxrec. and one judge Had Holmes winning by 7 pts. The other two, one of whom was from South Korea, had Park winning by only 1 pt.
Baek was crude but a very big puncher. He probably would have won belts at 154 if there were lesser guys around, but he ran into some guy named Jackson, who hit modestly hard.
How do you think, Who of them deserves to be higher in korean all time list? I understand that both were average champs
Baek clearly - he was naturally smaller and yet beat better competition (including head-to-head v. Park, as well as some fighters who beat Park). They were both flawed fighters technically, and both were notorious for bad training habits. I don't remember a fight where either fighter didn't have trouble making weight.
