James Derick Kirkland is a 5'9 31 year old Light Middleweight with a 32-1 28 KO's 1 KO loss. Born and raised in Austin, Texas, USA. Kirkland is the embodiment of everything Boxing should be in the United States, pure vicious borderline primal ruthless aggression, he is the type of fighter that would have actually gotten people interested in the sport once again in a big way, had he been marketed properly and been a little more active he could have been a huge star. He is everything that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is not, no finesse just pure excitement, the kind of excitement that puts asses in seats, especially the key demographic, the casual fan, he's the antithesis of the dull sweet science Floyd offers to the masses. But because of his erratic personal life, stints in jail, on again off again relationship with his own personal Kirkland Whisperer Ann Wolfe, quasi glass jaw, and ridiculously long periods of inactivity he's frustratingly frittered the prime of his potentially big career away. It was some of these reasons that got him stopped in the Ishida fight, but then motivated with the proper guidance he came back and put forth one of the most brutal matches of the past 10 years later that year against Perro Angulo, which essentially ruined Alfredo as a viable fighter. What we tend to forget is, he only has 1 loss that's all, yet it seems like more but it isn't. So will he be ready without Wolfe and have his head in the game enough to pull off a massive upset against Canelo or will he falter horribly, we must wait and see. I'm a big fan and I'm hoping he can pull out something special, but that at this point may be too much to wish for. I've read that Kirkland dropped Anne Wolfe from his corner? not a very smart move before a fight with Alvarez

You forgot to mention that he has the worst chin in boxing today. Getting sparked out by Ishida one of the biggest featherfisted punchers of 160, that is atrocious.

Kirkland had it all , Anne Wolfe & Pops Billingsly took him off the streets & gave him the chance to make something of himself. Sadly Kirkland could not lose that street punk attitude couldn't stay out of trouble. He let Anne & Pops down so many times why they bothered with him again & again I'll never know.
Remember Bernard Hopkins had the same start in life as then he met Bouie Fisher. Turned his life around & now he is an ATG & a rich ,happy contented married man. This could have been Kirkland too but sadly Kirkland doesn't have the cojones or the smarts Bernard has.
If he fights Canelo, especially without Anne & Pops , he's going to get destroyed

Kirkland would be wise to bow out of this fight.

    If nothing else, delay it.

He's up around 200lbs, and dropping 45lbs in 2 months can't possibly benefit him against a top 5 LMW.

If I were Kirkland, I would lobbying my team to put me as the headliner of a local card at 168 or 175 vs Ishiida. It's a fight that could generate enough $$$ to interest Ishiida, who's hovering at or around 190 himself, and it would give James a chance at redeeming himself without risking draining himself in his return bout after such a long layoff.

And Kirkland, for all his lack of skill would still be rematching a guy who lost something that night in Monte Carlo when GGG became the first man to starch him.:think:think:think
