I see the fight hs been rescheduled for April 18th yet hes still insisting on fighting on March 6th , anyone else think this is complete stupidity to jeopardize the abril fight with fighting so close 5 weeks prior , all it would take is a head clash or hand injury and hes fcucked it !!!!!
Whilst I agree the date is way too close to the title fight, I think he' got just as much risk jeopardising the fight during sparring to be honest, most recent postponements (bar illness and outside the ring incidents) came from sparring injuries
I know and I agree that it would seem madness to have the fight, but he could just as easily be struck down with something outside of a bout that could derail the title shot as the last few months have shown us Still fingers crossed it all goes ahead no problems:thumbsup
Agree but another thing that is a problem in my mind is making weight then rehydrating and cutting back to weight again inside a short time
Hes still tweeting that hes looking forward to still being in a big fight on the original march 6th date :good
I personally wouldn't have one of my fighters boxing 5 weeks prior to a World Title shot but if they really feel he needs it then i suppose they know best. All it would take is a head clash for a cut or Derry to punch someone wrong and break his hand to scupper the fight!!
Derry opponent won't be of the highest level in March and could help keep the tools sharp, the fight won't be at 9st9lbs I'm sure either I'm of the same opinion has David
This was my thinking when i posted the topic , crazy also to expect his fanbase to shell out twice in a month
Always a risk - even if his opponent on March 6th is of a lower level. I understand he can use it to sharpen up before Abril, but all it takes is either of them falling in with a shot, heads go together and a cut opens up. With the fight already falling through once and it being Derry's big shot, not sure it's the greatest of ideas.
The biggest issue I'd say could be Derrys brought weight down then he'll no doubt put a bit on after the fight ( not as much as usual) then you need to shift it again, but he's an experience pro so will deal with it
