How much does he weigh in the ring, then? I just assumed it wasn't more than 165 lbs, because he doesn't look it.
I do think a little more fuss gets made about that water weight than needs to though, to be honest. People act like it's a huge advantage and stuff, but it's not. People also behave like it's a submitting factor in how easy it will be to get to the next weight and I don't think it necessarily is that, either, though I'm not an expert. Like anyone is taking into account what Golovkin takes on in water and food when they are working out whether or not they can move him up again.
I absolutely agree when the quality of the fighter is high enough. I think it's been proven in fact. I think Mayweather's part of the reason it's been proven. But you need to have a certain quality. If you're "just a fighter" it's hard to have these big b@s****s bearing down in you, I should think. Like a gay club in Aberdeen (probably).
Hagler and Clay were in their 20s when they fought other great fighters. Golovkin is 32 and has fought nobody basically. People are judging his power as being the best ever at middleweight. But who has he knocked out? People are trying to favor him over Hagler in fantasy match ups but he doesn't have nearly as good of a resume as Hagler at the same age and has bad defence!
fj again I state the obvious. GGG in his 20s NEVER had the opportunity to turn pro and visit the USA to fight the best fighters as did Hagler and other top MWs of the past. So why should you hold this against him.? But his amateur record is astonishing to say the least. Tell me this, were a Hagler to have been in GGG's place in his native land, forced to fight over 300 bouts, never being floored, beating several amateurs who became successful pro's, and dominating his 30 bout pro career as now GGG is doing, would Hagler could have done any better than GGG has done up to this point ? I DOUBT IT...And I think that Hagler was a great MW no doubt, but when I remember Vito Antuofermo, brave as he was going 15 tough rounds with a prime Hagler, my tuition tells me that Vito does not last the distance with the monster we know as GGG...Though GGG has not fought any truly top MWs, THIS IS NOT HIS FAULT...cheers.
Well, then Golovkin is about 5 lbs heavier than I thought. Don't know about standard, though. There are some guys closer to 180 lbs (Murray looked it for example), but there's hardly anyone much smaller than Golovkin, is there? So taking the really big MWs into the equation I'd say Golovkin is a bit below average size. But not as much as I thought.
You have a point, but a similar one could be made to a degree about Hagler. What great MW had he beat at 32 (or ever)?
When ever GGG fights it is a treat, Murry was tough and fought to survive once hit but he threw back and remember many felt he beat Martinez and Sturm so there is a case that Murry was unbeaten. I have not been as excited since Tyson coming up and Roberto Duran in the 70's He has had a long amateur career but has broken down all in front of him with precision. Floyd is smart enough not to look for this fight and Ward may have to to make the money both at catch-weight fights ...Floyd has to get past Manny and GGG has to clean out the Middles before he meets Ward unless they fight at a catch-weight but I think Ward will move up to 175lbs
If Jennings springs an upset, I'd like to see how the American boxing media react to that in this week. And Floyd might get jealous, and inspired .. ... but, not likely to happen. Amazing that this guy Jennings only started boxing in 2009.
Jennings looked as big as Klitschko at the weigh in which was a little surpising. Not height wise just body muscle mass. Klitschko came in very slim. But no I don't see Jennings springing the upset. I think he may have a moment or two but I actually think Wlad is going to have a very good performance tonight.
This man has a far greater chance than Jennings has. Wlad may even avoid this man. http://www.independent.co.uk/incoming/article10200156.ece/alternates/w620/tyson-fury-getty.jpg
I know from your posts you're a fan if this man why choose such an awful picture of him. He'll be next prob in September he'll have his chance.
