Why is Roy Jones so eager to fight Calzaghe?

That's simple. To make more millions.

Being a professional boxer is not exactly an occupation with a long lifespan.

Because he wants the main man without fighting his way back to the top. Can't blame him because he knows his name sells so he just needs Warren and Calzaghe to give him the green light. Is a bit embarrassing watching him beg for the fight though

cause calzaghe is way over rated and its an easy win for him to get.

Nah I just felt like quoting Roger Mayweather.
But in Roys case its probably both, money and denial. He still believes he's got it even when he was KTFO back to back he was in denial thinking he still has it.

A lot of you guys are simply full of crap. Here's the deal: RJJ is a legend and will be remebered that way once he retires. If you need a reminder, go to youtube.com and enter "Roy Jones Jr." Watch some of those clips. Simply amazing. As far as "why" he is wanting Calzaghe? Roy does feel as if the losses to Tarver and Johnson were a fluke; he'll fight Calzaghe and WIN and then perhaps fight Johnson and WIN and then destroy Tarver with a big WIN and retire. He spent some money on rap records, but do you know how many millions he has made in the past nineteen years? Unlike Tyson, RJJ still has most of his left. Roy knows that he is a unique talent and is looking to end his career on a few key fights cementing his legacy against big names and settle the score with the two guys who have wins over him.

You say that only because you'd like for this fight to gain competitive credibility, which it won't with the more dedicated fans on this board.

This is a cashgrab for both fighters, just like ODLH and Mayweather -- only Oscar is less shot than Jones.

As for why he's taking the fight, it's probably mostly for money, along with ego and needing attention.

Jones doesn't realize he's shot. After Tarver II and III and the Johnson fight he was in total denial about losing in embarrassing fashion. He still hasn't accepted that he's faded

Similar to Evander Holyfield. Everyone knows he's shot and has no chance against quality opposition, except for him

Any scenario that calls for Calzaghe to fight Dawson and Tarver rather than Jones and Pavlik is extremely far-fetched. He'd be leaving a lot of money on the table, and Joe -- like Floyd -- isn't at all interested in doing that. Not that I blame him.

The Calzaghe/Jones fight is ready to be sold now -- it won't matter to the general public if it's competitive. If the public is ready to buy in large numbers, the fight is ready to be made. Credibility isn't a factor in and of itself.
