Pretty excited for this... an annual event held St. Patrick's day weekend. A bar in Portland brings bands from Ireland as well as a boxing team to compete against the best boxers from our region.* The heavyweight they are bringing is their best/most experienced boxer. I train the recent US Championships heavyweight champion Pat Ferguson who will box this heavyweight. It used to be when you win nationals you are placed on the U.S. team. AIBA decided that the winners of WSB will make up this team so we are now busy looking to get as much experience from now til the 2016 Olympic Trials, so this Ireland challenge is big for us, and rare us fans up here in the Northwest to see such boxing.* This is the 5th year of this event & Team Northwest hasn't won the event, so we're training our butts off to bring the Northwest vs. Ireland team trophy home for once. keep punching
the heavyweight is Darren O'Neill isn't ireland best heavyweight its gary sweeney who is fighting in the WSB O'Neill is a guy who fought at 75kg and has just moved up to heavyweight as he no longer has the time to train fully good luck too, iv no idea what squad ireland will send do you know?
I'm not sure. I do know there is duals vs Ireland in Oregon the 13th & one in Pittsburgh the 14th so not sure who's fighting where. We've been following O'Neill but not sure if that's who we fight. Happy for the experience. '
