As John Rawlings and Barry Jones threw objectivity out of the window during Eubank vs Chudinov, I began wondering whether I was imagining things. I saw Eubank Junior engaging in a brawl with a brave, tough, extremely limited, non-puncher Russian kid, both landing flush punches in a fight that looked like two drunks s****ping over a taxi. What the commentary described was a phenomenal performance by Britain's next great fighter. Eubank walking away with his hands down from the slow, pushed punches of a cut, exhausted fighter was described by Rawling like he'd just seen the reincarnation of Wilfred Benitez. After soaking his knickers over Eubank throughout, Rawling topped it off by comparing the win to Gennady Golovkin's the previous week against Martin Murray. He didn't seem to be joking. I came here hoping for some sane, rational opinion, to find a thread begun by the OP tipping Eubank to stop Martin Murray in a similar way Golovkin did. Did nobody else on my beloved Eastside British forum see the same porous defence and sweeping wide punches as before the Saunders fight? Nobody else watch Eubank and think 'Keep this guy away from big punchers'?
He will be an absolute ***** of a fight for a lot of them top middleweights, Solomon, Cotto, Taylor, Jacobs.
i really want eubank to improve so much as i think he could be great for UK boxing fans to follow over the next few years , but i have to agree with OP he is far away from the finished product at the moment and has to improve a ton before he mixes with the very best in the division .
I thought Junior did ok on Saturday but was nowhere near the next world-beater that the commentators were shamefully describing. Still they had their orders.... I'd like to see the lad do well, he's got some talent but only if he can keep improving do I think he'll do well in the top class when the time comes. The good thing is that he didn't seem overly excited to have won - as in he considered this fight as just a stepping stone to bigger things on the horizon. Mentioning Eubank in the same breath as Golovkin though is just soppy and down right disrespectful. The mess GGG would make of him.......:dead
CEJ is boxing in the wrong style. He should be a text-book "boxer", NOT a slugger...he does have the physical attributes to be a great boxer, but he is choosing to try and look spectacular, and it's not working well IMO...
He's clearly a top level boxer but he also hasn't faced anyone with the power to make him pay for his lack of movement while trading. He is also a flawed tactician. He does have more 'potential' than anyone else in the division though, as far as I'm aware, due to his physical attributes, so there will be hype. Eubank Sr saying he'd beat GGG now though did raise an eyebrow.
No he wasnt, it was approx 1/2 for BJS & 15/8 EJR. Edit: got a bit closer near the fight but BJS still fave http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...xing-to-watch-on-tv-this-weekend-9891972.html
Eubank started the fight as favourite, I remember because it was one of the very few times i've won money from a bookie. He wasn't 2-1 on as he's been quoted for a potential rematch though. All further proof that objectivity is abandoned by some when it comes to a famous name.
Im a fan of his to be honest. I would prefer he worked with another trainer though, adam booth would be good for him.
The commentators were biased and overstated Eubank Jr's performance but Eubank Jr did perform very well overall imo. He clinched too much for my liking (though that may have been part of a gameplan) and he was a little too open to shots at times. I noticed him get countered a couple of times in a similar way to how Khan sometimes gets countered. They both seem to occasionally get a bit careless and focus on offence and brawling and neglect their defence instead of being cerebral and thinking in the ring. Against a dangerous counter-puncher Eubank Jr could have gotten starched. He still looks a bit inexperienced and naive in the ring but also shows bags of potential, just not the finished article yet (not surprising considering the opposition he has faced). Edit - Forgot to mention that he also didn't go to the body enough against Chudinov. In particular when he had him hurt he just kept punching himself out by throwing headshots that were blocked when the guys body was there to be hit.
Indeed, you and Paddy are correct. Just found: Earlier in the week, Saunders was 5-6 favourite. That has since swung, and heading into the fight, Saunders is out to 6-5. Eubank Jnr is the 8-11 favourite ahead of the opening bell.
