The roar of the crowd can give any sports person a big psychological left which can often translate into an improvement in performance. I've competed in sporting events before and the adrenaline rush you can get off of the support is dramatic and can literally wash away physical fatigue and pain though it's only a temporary effect.

Also judges can sometimes be influenced by the roar of the crowd. Perhaps they put more emphasis on a punch landing due to the response of the crowd, when in reality the punch didn't land as well as they thought.

It's a fact in every sport that performing in front of a home crowd is an advantage whether it be football, boxing, tennis, athletics etc, it's definitely a factor. If it wasn't why did Ward boast so much about what a good job his promoter did by securing all his Super 6 fights in the US.

Ward should take this fight and in the UK.

Moneys an obvious reason but Ward is a world class, unbeaten world champion yet his stock is pretty awful, nowhere near what it should be. Froch's stock is still very high cuz hes not at his peak anymore but he is far from shot.

To come to the UK and beat Froch would get the limelight right back on Ward which he really needs, then he can really get the career back up and running.

I know whats said about shocking UK judging but i dont think its any worse than anywhere else, including USA, Italy and Germany, well maybe not Italy. If the 1st Froch Ward fight had been in the UK Ward would still of won. Home decisions happen but if its not too close the right winner is usually announced.

Ward beat Froch quite clearly, Froch has got alot more ring smart since he stepped up to the real top levels cuz he was messy as hell before and at the start of the super 6 but Ward really was that step above and would be now.

If he felt he needed a warm up fight i couldnt blame him but if he just washes his hands of the notion claiming he holds the cards and he wont travel then hes a bit dumb to just dismiss it.

I agree he's lost a lot of prestige in his absence and in one fight he can literally restore all the lost respect and standing and get paid handsomely for it as well. There is no other single opponent at super middle that would see him gain as much respect in one fell swoop.

Ideally a warm up would be best after such a long period of inactivity but he seems to only want multi-million dollar paydays and he isn't going to get that fighting another warm up opponent.

Does Ward really need Froch ?

He needs A BIG FIGHT, a "name opponent", but it doesn't have to be Froch.
    He beat Froch already, clearly.
He could look around for some other opponent.

Truth is, Froch probably needs the fight more, and probably does NOT wanted it much either.

Hearn is overplaying his hand here, probably knowing that Ward will walk away and look elsewhere.

    Ward's options are limited.

Golovkin isn't a big draw yet and definitely not PPV.

Kovalev isn't a big draw either and it wouldn't be PPV and Ward has said he doesn't want to move up.

Stevenson said he's willing and would do what Dawson did and move down, but once again it isn't PPV though it would at least make Ward a decent purse though nothing like he wants.

Kessler is retired and Kessler would want him to travel just like Froch and the money would be a fraction of what Froch would bring.

Chavez Jr is really the only other fighter than could provide Ward with a good payday and the possibility of PPV. But Chavez Jr has been talking about Golovkin and Froch, I doubt he'd be interested in Ward, little reward for far too much risk. Chavez Jr wouldn't have to look for GGG but he knows he'll struggle to find Ward.

Ward has to accept he doesn't hold all the cards and if it goes to purse bids he will have to travel or be stripped as no way will Roc Nation outbid Hearn without making a loss.

I don't think McGuigan, Benn, Bruno or Hatton would've beaten Pedroza, McClellan, McCall or Tszyu outside of the UK.. (although with some fighters -Eubank, Hamed- a hostile 'away' venue took them to those same levels a crowd backing for others would!!)

Hatton beating Tszyu was as much about timing as it was location.

So was McGuigan-Pedroza in a way.. but without those manic crowds giving them that extra boost, they probably wouldn't of quite done the jobs..

No that was more about a ref letting Hatton maul Tysu to death more than anything

odds of getting Ward to fight in England might be even worse than Floyd signing vs Golovkin. a billion to one, if you can find a casino bemused enough to take your chump dollar.

The major issue is Ward probably believes his star power should parallel what he's done inside the ring as a P4P stalwart. Unfortunately for him, he's in a situation like Mayweather was earlier in his career- a great fighter but just not a big draw for whatever reason.

It looked like he was on the verge of supers****om following his impressive run through the Super 6 and his subsequent demolition of Dawson at SMW. But injuries and promotional issues caused a huge road block to his career which has caused it to be stagnant ever since.

This would be a huge fight for Ward to help him gain some critical acclaim with the fans and just gain some exposure in the ring in front of a big audience. He's going to have to swallow his pride and recognize that while he may be one of the best fighters in the world, he still isn't a top draw guy.

Fighting Froch in England can really help catapult his stock, and depending on how (if) he beats him, it can help him gain some popularity abroad.

If it happens, it will be in the UK. It will be in Nottingham if the fight is a agreed and Ward is going to get no favours what so ever. It will be the smallest possible ring at the City ground and if this does happen with all of this then I would give Froch a very good shot at beating him. If any of this is different then Ward wins on points.

Imo Ward should agree to fight in the UK as long as he has a big say in who the referee is, make sure it's not someone who is going to stop the fight too early.
