Smith is nowhere close to world level and was gifted a shot he didn't deserve, then double gifted a rematch. Two mega pay days, and now he should retire if he can't (or doesn't fancy defending) against Rocky. I think he knows he gets beat.

IB usually agree with you but Paul Smith is an enigma. Just look at his record. He proclaims to be 'World Class' because he can hang with a shot Abraham for 24 rounds, but looking at the skinny of it, WHO HAS HE ACTUALLY BEATEN IN THE PAST 5 YEARS?

Paul likes to say he's this and that and talks a good game. If he was as talented as he is knowledgable about boxing he would be up there with the elite. But he has got journeyman like talent with elite application to the sport.

Rocky was in a stinker on Sat, but he thrives on boxers taking to fight to him (just look at each of his knockouts victories) . Could you see Paul on the backfoot against Rocky giving the size disparity :bart

Paul is trying to dismiss Rocky as a challenge but deep down (considering how long he's been banging on about keeping his Lonsdale belt) who else is he going to fight!? Dismissing Rocky as a challenge but will look like a fool vacating his title. If its such a easy fight, that will sell well in Liverpool and the moneys there, why not?

Fielding is an accident waiting to happen imo , very stiff and robotic and will be brutally exposed in the not to distant future

i watched what seems ages ago now at the Echo Degale take smigger right out and of course Groves KO him, I well understand how and why he got the AA fight buy the truth is he lost the two of them and was left scatching my head why he got a second go .

Paul is good fighter but he is not world level I think Rocky has been respectful and Paul has been Paul its his way or no way , I would love to see the fight it sells out the Echo I feel

When conference teams in the FA cup earn a reply with premier league teams it does not mean that they are good enough to play in the premier league week in week out.

Ive been wanting to see him fight Fielding for ages!

I lol'ed @ the big fights option in the poll, i assume that was a joke?

Would like to see the fight. Fielding somewhat underrated on here and Smith massively overrated.

Lets not forget Smith struggled like **** to win The Lonsdale at 168 by narrowly s****ing past Quigley. He then struggled in his first defence against Tony Dodson FFS. Next fight along got absolutely dispatched by DeGale infront of a partisan home crowd and 2/3 fights later got stood on his head by George Groves.

2/3 fights later he beats Jamie Ambler and David Sarabia (not even for interim/intercontinental trinkets) and then somehow finds himself fighting for a World Title.

Yes, he did probably far better than imagined in the first Abraham fight but in the second he shown great heart and that was about it. As someone mentioned above, in his older age he's become more likeable but the truth of the matter is, he isnt as good as some would have you believe. The Smith/Fielding fight would be quite competitive and its makes sense on all fronts

Looking at all the above, I agree Paul was gifted the Abraham fight first time round - though he majorly over achieved! Second time around he did slightly better than expected he'd originally do.

However , he has avoided the Fielding fight for what ever reason, but whether that's out of fear I'm un sure, think it may be more of a tactical thing - keep the Lonsdale so that Callum can eventually win it. History boys & all that remember.

Personally I think it is out of order, other champions would be stripped if not defending a title in so long, the shame for rocky is that he's been made mandatory a little late , as he's slightly above domestic level IMO. As good of a fight rocky vs either smith would be, I doubt it will happen.

Agree but either way either Smith v Fielding would get a good crowd and both decent money, which is what it is all about!

Dislike the pair of them, both overrated and think way too much of themselves, at least if they fight one of them loses.

    My thoughts too.

Paul Smith talks the talk as a commentator but his action in the ring bears no correlation to the mouth.

King Arfur hardly trained for the first fight and never really broke sweat. Groves showed Smith's potential basically a decent domestic level fighter.

No interest in either Smith or Fielding
