a kick boxer owns boxing. It has already been done many times. Think of it this way. When you come into a fight you bring your weapons. A boxer only has his hands. A MMA fighter has, Hands, Knees, Elbow. Legs. ETC. Boxer comes into war with just guns(pistols). A MMA figher comes with GUN, shot guns, rifles, Gernades, bazookas. Just think about it. Who would win the fight.
Excellent ****ing post. I agree completely. Although I started watching MMA first after meeting tank abbot at a bar in Huntington Beach and talking to him about his upcoming fight in the "ultimate Fighting show" that I had no idea about at the time I decided to watch and became an instant fan. From There my love of combat sports grew and I started watching boxing and now even train in boxing several times a week. I love both sports and frankly I wouln't want it any other way. Gives me more great fights to enjoy with top level athletes. I think the die hard boxing fans should give MMA an honest shot and die hard MMAers should give boxing a fair shot and see the great aspects of both sports IMMHO. If boxing and MMA continue to put back to back cards together ala showtime popularity for both sports could do great things for the future of every athlete involved.
a mma fight starts on their feet. yes, boxers have made the transition to mma, however these fighters were not elite or were not in their prime. i've seen terrible striking from the very best mma stars, and an elite boxer would have a field day. take an elite boxer and an elite mma fighter, i would put my money on the boxer.

The fact still remains that they have not nearly enough skill in other aspects to transition, nor the balls to put their rep on the line. They would get massacred under MMA rules, you act as if the MMA fighter would stand and opt to box with them, how foolish can you be? Either way, Anderson would handle a boxer on the feet overall, just not if he opted to box only.
If fighting for a HW title isn't enough then theres maybe 10 guys in the world who could make the transition according to you, so whats the point? And He didn't just loose, he got **** choked, in a minute. The point is no amount of boxing skill could have stopped that, you have to earn the ability to box in mma with the ability to stop a takedown, the ability to get back up, instilling the fear of going to the ground with you because your submission game is so good, NONE of these things are learned through boxing. You could have a billion times the skill of SRR, SRL, and Floyd Mayweather combined and it wouldn't matter, you can not use it against somebody not willing to let you without at least some of the other three, no amount of improvement in boxing would have helped skelton.
Haven't we had this conversation before? I do not think some of you people understand that MMA and Boxing are sports, different rules, different games. They are both combat sports which is they only thing that they have in common. People used to ask who would win a karate guy or a boxer, it depends On the two individuals and the rules. Some of you also do not really understand the striking philosophy of MMA A Boxer cannot stand and jab in MMA. A Boxer would have to move constantly and give a lot of angles and never risk a trade of punches for fear of the leg strike or being grabbed and held and taken down or a knee he couldn't clinch when someone got close. He couldn't rest at all. Actually there are a few good boxers with a martial arts background vitali Klitschko is one and vlad has a similiar background but not as much martial arts as boxing. I could teach a man to defend himself with boxing in a few months but it takes years to learn wrestling. I believe that there are several mma guys if they wanted to pursue just a boxing career they could do well. anderson silva, GSP, andre arlovskie as a matter of fact I think that Arlovskie should have boxed he would make a dynamite heavy weight.
There is too much money to be made with a Roy Jones vs Anderson Silva fight for it to not happen. As soon as Silva's contract is up with the UFC that fight will occur. Silva can make more in that one fight with RJJ than he can fighting the duration of his contract with the UFC. Then all of the yawns and sighs in these forums regarding MMA vs boxing will change their song and it will become THE hot topic of discussion. Until then we can enjoy both sports individually.
