No, it is true. Look it up. This is per capita. (per head of the family).
16.8k PHP is the poverty line in the Philippines and about 30% give or
take 5% is below this.

The gross national product per head is about 1500 USD a year if I
remember correctly, which is still ridiculously low, but looks a bit
better,due to the top incomes being insanely high compared to the
lower ones.

note that in the philippines, with around 250k PHP gross a month for a
family of 4, a normal western income, you are already part of the top
0.1%.

 

if it's monthly yes its possibly true but yearly no way you will survive with 16,800 pesos.

No it is true, it is yearly, I have lived here for nine years I see it around
me. Also keep in mind that in Manila people earn a lot more than in the
provinces.

If you do not believe me, look up government numbers on the poverty
line.

BTW I said, per head of the family, I meant per head. Which means that
if you have one bread winner in a family of 4, the income of the
breadwinner is divided by 4 to calculate their income per capita (head).

Im from Philippines so I know what the basic salary is. FYI wiki is not the most accurate source. Honestly living on 16K PHP for a whole year is not possible. Most people i know spend 16K every other months on smarthphones alone.

 

Because you are likely part of the upper 3-1%. I have lived here for 9
years and I am still amazed how some Filipinos can close their eyes to
the poverty right under their noses.

As I said, If you want numbers, from the PH government I will be happy
to link them.

 

BS! even the beggars in manila can earn more than 16.8 PHP in a year.

 

Educate yourself. Look up the numbers from the philippine government
itself. The same government that lowered the poverty line to not look
too bad internationally.

Ok example. Lets say a beggar makes 220 php a day on average,
every single day, and is the sole breadwinner for a family of 5, he
makes 220*365/5 =16.1k a year per head of his family.

Now lets take a yaya that has 2 children with a runaway husband and
makes 4000 a month, she makes 4000*12/3=16000 per year per
head of her family.

And these are manila examples, where only 10% is below the poverty
line. Now imagine the rest of the country.
