Golovkin and what move should he make?

Cotto need to man up and fight GGG. This is what the fans want.

If Cotto chickens out, then Jacobs or the winner of Lee/Quillin

 

There's no "if" as to whether he'll be champ "for another year".

Cotto will be stripped if he doesn't fight Golovkin after he does Heiland, or whoever they dig up from a cave to fight him. So in the Fall, either Cotto fights Golovkin or Golovkin fights a contender for the vacant title.

There's no other scenario.

 

I think GGG should just stay in the MW division and fight whoever the best available opponent is when it's time to pick an opponent

The day he becomes the biggest draw (money wise) in the division is the day all the fights will come to him...so he needs to focus on building his star power by racking up wins in the most impressive way possible.

P.S. Ignorant fans can carry on with that Cotto's a coward BS...but he brings all the money to the table in that potential fight. The lesser draw has to wait to be picked by the bigger draw...it's the food chain.

 

Before the Munroe Jr fight was signed, K2 contacted ROC / Cotto's team to no avail. No response. ROC & Cotto didn't dispute that when Loeffler came out with it.

A: Nobody. Cotto will receive lower network fees, get less viewers, etc.

I originally wanted to see GGG just hang around and unify belts but I think I'm getting ready to change my mind. He should take down the Lee/Quilliin winner and then go after Ward or Froch. Cotto's belt will come to him eventually. I hate to have to see GGG get out of his comfort zone just to get fights but I'd hate even more for him to pass his prime without ever building his legacy or his bankroll. I think he can handle the heavier guys. Once the opportunity presents itself, he can clean up Canelo/Cotto and whatever other jokers come through MW. He has to stop wasting his time.

 

In risk-reward terms..why take a dangerous GGG fight when you can make nearly as much fighting Heiland, Mora or K9? Also, why take the GGG fight before the Canelo fight? Canelo brings more money and less risk. Cotto has better options than a lot of people realise

GGG has to wait until Cotto (the bigger draw) decides to pick him. Fight making ability always rests with the bigger draw regardless of who has what titles or who's hype train is currently the strongest.

to be great, ggg eventually needs to take a "crazy/unwinnable" fight which is ward, just like ward needs to also take on someone like kovalev.

 

Why do people mention Ward? That guy is not relevant, he doesn't fight, he did not fight for a long time and his last opponent was some bum, instead of fighting GGG who called Ward out.

Ward's times is over, he won't come back anymore.

Because he'll lose the belt if he doesn't, which is completely fine. Fight GGG or vacate, per WBC.
