Watt's comment was fair enough. Etches was trying to get up.

Etches looked in much worse shape when the referee started holding his face and sticking his fingers in his mouth.
Then about six or seven guys jump in the ring and keep Etches on the floor.

In the real world Etches probably would have got up. No one actually "saved his life".

 

I've criticised Watt many times on here, I've Aways managed to stop short of wishing harm to him though.
For you to wish him to suffer a brain injury, on this of all forums just shows the calibre of person capable of using the Internet.

 

Etches looked like he was going to try to get up, and Howard Foster forcibly pushed him back down. Watt called it as he saw it, and I agree with him. I think he should have been given more chance to get up. This is boxing. I think what Watt was trying to say/imply is that fights are stopped too soon these days, and fighters are often not given the chance to fight on or recover properly.

Bravo on the stroke comments too.

Sometimes these knee jerk reactions to safety concerns actually do a lot to make boxing look bad.

In this case, one minute the commentator was saying how badly hurt Etches is, then a minute later he's saying he can come back again and re-build. That does nothing for the image of the sport. It makes it seem that people are getting half-killed and knocked cold when they are probably not actually. If they are, then the better advice would be perhaps retire.

From what I saw, Etches didn't look particularly bad until the referee held his face and stuck his fingers in his mouth.
Of course, the referee had a closer view and made his call, but I can only go on what I saw.
Watt's comment was reasonable.

 

Firstly, watt gets millions from sky.... Mwahaha. They can't pay active fighters millions let alone pundits.

Secondly, whatever you say about watt he is too proffessional to be half cut on air, unlike some others we could mention.

That being said, in this instance it was a ludicrous call and if it had been khomitsky on the canvas we know damn well Jim would have been giving it the old "nah he's gone, the referee should stop tha Feyt!"

Ive always liked Watt,as a boxer and as a commentator,but he made a serious mistake there and tried to cover it up. To me it looked obvious Adam wasn't going to be able to continue. The only surprise was he wasn't put in the recovery position straight away. A lad without his natural toughness could have been badly hurt. Maybe you're right. Jim is drawing his pension and probably quite well off. Hell take some replacing but I agree its maybe time for him to get a new set of golf clubs.

 

Shows that Jim had no idea that the punch was good or was not paying attention and missed it.

Either way he sounded like an amateur commentator - reminds me of Peter Allis asking why Phil Mickleson was dancing on the 18th green when he sunk a putt to win the masters.

 

What a load of fuss about nothing.

Watt needs to go nonetheless.
