Coming late to this and can't be bothered reading the whole thing, but in terms of aerobic capacity cross country skiers are proven to be the 'fittest' athletes of any sport.

However... Fighting is probably almost unique in its mix of aerobic and anaerobic exertion, strength, power to weight and explosiveness. A well conditioned boxer is a true 'jack of all trades' with regards to conditioning

Maybe not a good example of overall "conditioning", but a nice example of some of what folks in disciplines that fly beneath the radar are capable of: Chris Sharma bouldering (rock climbing on low rocks - allows high intensity of moves, without the faff of ropes) - incidentally this is now probably 2 grades below the cutting edge:

Long distance runners are very weak, have poor vertical jumps, weigh less than a average woman and in fact would be pretty useless in most other sports.

Lol at soccer/basketball/tennis players and distance runners being mentioned.

There is no real answer to this question.

Do you know how much g-force and impact F1 drivers have to sustain during a race?

Jenson Button does Ironman competitions as a hobby! That should tell you all you need to know on an F1 drivers fitness, you imbecile!

To be fair, tennis players work pretty ****ing hard. Compared to rugby players, MMA fighters, wrestlers and cross country skiiers not so much.

How so? An MMA fight can end in seconds. A Tennis match can't.
