Mayweather's reluctance to throw punches while on the ropes

Pac looked great in that fight, not sure why so many people are making excuses for this one. :think

 

You'll have to talk to Bradley about it. But in my opinion, if you're feeling hard punches coming from the left, right, and middle all at once, and they are fast enough to feel like they are hitting all at once on every side, then I wouldn't know where to move my head. Similar reaction probably happened with Bradley. He didn't know what to do, so he tried to stick it out. (He's a tough kid, survive Ruslan, right?) However, Pacquiao doesn't tire out easily, and Bradley paid the price.

What happens?

Mayweather throws an off balanced right hand and gets countered with a straight left hand. Now, what does he do when Ortiz gets him to the ropes? Does he counter while Ortiz throws or wait? Ortiz isn't super fast, but he isn't slow either. He's get some decent speed. What does Mayweather do? Ignore the head butt.

Also, I'll point out a instinctive mistake Floyd made. After he got hit clean with the straight left hand, what did he do? He went into the shell for a couple seconds. It was amazing. His instinct to shell up happens INSTANTLY. However, fighting a southpaw, this left his body open for a right hook and for the straight left hand to stretch over and hit him again.

Now Ortiz is too dumb and too wild to recognize these small holes, but against a crafty fighter like Manny Pacquiao who has some ring genius of his own...he can recognize these small opportunities and capitalize on them.

Watch the clip though and really dissect it. This isn't one instance with Floyd either. I'm showing you a habit. I can show you more if you need.

 

Also, watch the counter Pacquiao used for Algieri's right hand. Pacquiao's ability to negate a reach is ... seriously incredible to watch.

Could that be one of the counters for Mayweather's right?

Left hand, right hook counter. Probably the two most important punches in the fight without a doubt.

^^^How could pacquiao do that if pacquiao is a way shot fighter as you say he is? Please just log off Boxing_master because you say pacquiao will ko floyd in may 2nd but say if floyd beats pacquiao is cause pacquiao is a shot fighter.

That was a trap. Oscar didn't land anything to put Mayweather there (or land anything when Mayweather was there, lol). Mayweather set Oscar up. Complete trap.

Also, I did give an example of where Mayweather will sometimes counter in between combinations. I even used Maidana as an example. Most of the time though, he won't take the risk.

However, when he's caught or if he's pressured there by a flurry- like the one Victor used- he won't sit there and trade punches. Watch round 4 of the Judah fight for another example. I see this most against people with some pretty good speed, which is tough because the sample size for speedy fighters is pretty small...

Also, it's funny how Oscar looks as if he's been fighting for 50 rounds while Mayweather isn't even breaking a sweat. Love it

 

Watch any of Mayweathers fights properly round by round. His ability to stick to his plan and avoid trading stupid shots on the ropes is one of the many factors that allows him to make the necessary adjustments during a fight to win. Yeh, one, two maybe three rounds his opponents may get the better of him on the ropes. But eventually they start coming in to wild and he picks them apart all night long. Mayweather controls fights with what he does when he isn't punching.

Now I'm not saying Manny doesn't stand a chance, it's far from that. Although if you think that Mayweather needs to trade shots on the ropes with Manny you need a reality check. Also, enough with the big secrets. Stop pretending you have knowledge and get back in your mothers basement son.

Floyd is not very effective on the ropes. That is a weakness in his game. James Toney (who also had the shoulder roll) for example was a master on the ropes.

Pac can outhustle Floyd on the ropes. he needs to use his legs to move out of range after he is through with the combinations.

Like always Roach has a good plan

 

I didn't say he was great on the ropes, yet he figures guys out. Guys get him on the ropes and throw everything they have and Floyd quickly learns their patterns. Yet most guys who get him on the ropes barely land a punch. To me, that's pretty effective.

 

If that's the master game plan that Roach for Pacquiao it's going to be a long night. Have you not seen the 47 fights where other fighters have failed to do this? The plan to somehow drive Floyd into the ropes, keep him there and throw whatever you have has been tried and failed. Keeping it up for 12 rounds can't be done either.

 

It gives Pac a chance to outhustle him. Floyd needs to stay off the ropes in the fight.
