They are in the best condition for boxing. However someone once told me, "You think James Toney can move around on a tennis court for a few hours?

    And..?

I'm referring to the athletes themselves and the **** they put themselves through to be the best, not the sport they participate in.

MMA fighters practice multiple diciplines on a daily basis, they half kill themselves during training to get to the top. Tennis players push hard, but it doesn't compare.

TheExpertboxer makes a very good point.

Makes me laugh how many people on here say Boxing training is harder than MMA training! It really isn't.

I don't. Not for one second.

An MMA'er does what a Boxer does, they train in that art.
    A Boxer doesn't.

If a Boxer done an MMA workout they'd work muscles they never knew they had and would be exhausted within a round.

    Grappling + Striking = EXHAUSTING.

    How do you define 'fitness'?
There are far stronger and far better aerobically conditioned athletes than boxers.
In general as athletes, boxers are unimpressive.

i would say if you can run a 4 minute mile your fitter than 99.9999% of the world
but you may be lacking in strength.........?

whats your definition of conditioned??? fitness + strength + endurance?

Of interest, We did are running on the track, this particular day , we were doing 200m pyramids. This athlete asked to join us, He started 10 metres behind the boxers, I explained to him where the starting line was, he gave me a smirk and he was starting there. At the end of the 1st run he was 15 m behind, with a smile he said got it. There was 5 boxers running that morning, yet the runner came last each time. Runner was Daly Thompson.

Some Rugby players have great stamina, they use loads of different muscles for 80 mins.

An MMA guy wouldn't be able to box for 12 rounds at the pace top boxers do. Their boxing is low level at best.

MMA/Boxing/Wrestling have to be way up there because they put so many demands on all the systems and make them work together AGAINST another person. I don't think it gets much harder than that.

Some endurance athletes (ultramarathoners/triathletes/cyclists/back******s) are insane, but there's also powerlifters and Olympic lifters doing the equivalent with different systems.
