Big time boxing back in Birmingham they said. Absolute joke of a show. A month in and what do we have One of the Yafai's vs a 21-20-3 opponent The rest Vs TBA's with just a few weeks to go Is Macklin even still on the bill? Chucking Joshua on rolling over some bum does not substitute a decent main event. Now don't get me wrong I'm not blaming Frankie Gavin, chance at a world title he has to take it. But if this was a FW card you would all be slagging him to the hills. EH should have filled the card with a bit more depth (even say a half decent opponenty for Macklin, decent domestic fight for Eggington and the show is ok) but at the minute this card looks terrible. Compare this card (and some of EH's non PPV shows recently) to some of the leisure centre cards Frank Maloney and Hatton were putting on every week before Sky binned them off. Ok fair enough EH can sell fights a lot better, make **** fights an event, turn average boxers (who happen to have a load of football fans follow them) into stars, but for real boxing fans he is selling us short. If I had brought a ticket for that show I would be demanding my money back.
yep, looks like a shocker, barely any tickets sold. Should be a few villa fans going this one, with Frankie gavins bluescum fans there there's probably more likely a better fight in the concourse then in the ring. worry is the event will flop, and boxing won't be back in bham for a while.
Does anyone care? Having a shot Macklin, boring Gavin and a shyte Brian rose isn't going to ever get people there
I'd say the people who have brought tickets care. The people who pay for sky sports mnainly for boxing and get this ****e offered to them care
It'd probably be better if the card was pulled, keep Macklin as Irish instead of trying to have him re-born as a Brummie. Some cities just don't take to boxing or aren't idiots who will buy tickets to awful cards.
If you paid money for this card and you don't know one of the fighters then more fool you, it was never a decent card for the prices charged. And i pay for sky sports mostly for football, but every now and again there's a hull v Aston villa that I don't bother with, ditto for this, although the saving grace is the PBC card will get shown instead of this shower
this years been a shocker so far for uk boxing 1 good card in 5 months and even then you got to pay extra to see it
The sky shows have all been sh ite this year. He puts one decent one together and charges us all 17 quid for it. If it wasn't so upsetting i'd laugh.
Les freaking Sherrington. Even if the undercard were stacked with explosive, competitive matches featuring the best & brightest of the UK domestic scene, this would still be a joke of a card.
Ah, yeah, wasn't even fussed about the venue. Just saw "Daddy's boy's" and automatically assumed that referred to Eubank Jr. - and the May 9th dates coincidentally matches up, as it happens. I knew the date but had forgotten where it was. You meant Daddy's boy as in Fast Car, not CEJ. Got it now.
Many people here in Hammersmith bending Big Abdul's ear over this and his bosses at Sky know Eddie Hearn's non PPV bouts are a pile of dug poo. He says they don't care as long as they keep making money. Big Abdul is clear, the only route to change is not to give Sky money by: 1. Never buying PPVs. 2. Phoning up to cancel subscriptions as Sky will be on to people within a week offering 50% reductions and log the reasons for cancelling. 3. For those not wanting to cancel - at least pick the phone up and request that a complaint is logged about the poor boxing. If even a few hundred cancelled due to dissatisfaction with the quality of Boxing, it would automatically trigger a review by Sky. No point moaning about it - take action.
Any midlands show with out Terry 'Crash Bang' Carruthers on at some point is a poor card!! In a seriousness, the show was billed as Frankies home coming & the first of many with him & young Sam Eggington playing major roles. A big emphasis was out in the Yafai boys making big waves, but this was only ever going to be a 6/8 round run out for the pair. As for Macklin, well what can they expect - he's had his day I'm afraid...! Oh stacking the card up with AJ & cal smith will sell a few seats, but yeh all in all , a poor card! Bare in mind, Crolla will be back to it soon & that will mean a big Manchester card , which always seems to deliver (Ste woods will have a few faces ready there )
