Seemts to me as if people do not can or want to put his quote in the right context. Obviously he does not mean a run and hit style that he is going to use all night long, he probably rather envisions to keep Ruslan at the end of his punches and getting out of line when Rocky comes close to throw his hooks. Once Lucas steps around him and makes him off balance for a moment, he will surely start "slugging with him" (not really "with him", because in those moments Rusland will not be able to fireback effectively).

Of course, there is a probability that Ruslan still overpowers and stops him. But as I have faith in Lucas' stamina and his heavy (body) punching, it is probably more reasonable to believe that maybe after the first 5-6 rounds the constant artillery Rocky got hit with when trying to get in close (with zero head movement) will finally take his toll and make him crumble.

Expect Lucas to weather the storm early and finally come on top by stopping Siberia due to accumulating effects or win a rather clear decision.

I'd rather watch a fight, if I want to admire business decisions I read the Financial Times.

It is a good strategy as demonstrated by Algieri. The only caution is Mattysse can't box and doesn't have the length and footspeed of Algieri. So I feel Mattysse also needs to plant his feet to gain respect, otherwise Ruslan will catch Mattysse more often than he did against Algieri. It really is a much more interesting fight knowing one of them is going box.

You are an awful poster and need to find a new sport to follow.

The sport is called BOXING, you knob! :patsch If you want to see two unskilled guys slugging it out, maybe you should watch MMA or street fights on YouTube.

    Don't worry BM.....

Lucas doesnt know how to box.

He doesnt know how to slip shots, doesnt know how to block shots, or roll with shots.

He AINT gonna run. So you can rest assured there will be fireworks.

He'll fight behind the jab for a couple rds, and he might even clinch some early on, but when he's hit, he's gonna fire back, and when he sees and opening for his L right hand or a L hook, he's gonna throw it and it's gonna land.

At some point, this will become a war.

    Rest assured.:good

    boxing does not equal running....

I remember a lot of trainers and experts before the peterson fight had lamont beating lucas.... then we all saw what ahppened. In this one however, I think the experts are right... if Lucas trades.... especially early....he's going down hard.

his best bet, is let provodniklov exert his energy early and then come on strong after round 4. This will be a brutal fight where Matthysse can get KO'd but is the more likely to win. We should also remember Ruslan has never faced a power puncher....

    Questions:

How will Ruslan react when he gets clipped by a big shot from Matthysse?

How will Matthysse fight on the backfoot and avoid getting into serious trades?

Can Matthysse still generate power in his shots off the backfoot?

We know Matthysse can be hurt, the question is can Ruslan be hurt?

Then you no fan of maymay? :?

Anyway even if Matthysse keeps the distance and fights from the outside, he has the power and the stamina to ko Provodnikov anyway.

Same for Provodnikov, so the fight will be exciting any way.

Were are all the hypocrite fans of the "sweet science" at?

Does "sweet science" apply to some boxers and not others? :think :deal

How is this a bad strategy? This is what Matthysse SHOULD do. There's no way Provodnikov can box with him. Standing and trading with Provodnikov is suicide.

I appreciate what Mayweather does but it doesn't entertain me. I want to watch offensive boxers displaying their skills. It's very skillful being as defensively adept as Mayweather but it doesn't do it for me, sorry.

I watch boxing for violence, I have enough business intrigue in my day job! Hopefully the fight tonight will live up to its billing as a war.

I like the idea of Matty trying to box a little. I don't want either of these guys damage goods after this bout.

Arturo Gatti used to say the same thing, but would start brawling as soon as he got hit with a good punch.
