He is being groomed by HBO as the next superstar alongside Canelo, GGG knows his chance to conquer the elites/big names will come and if he keeps winning, then he will be the next P4P king once Manny and Floyd hang them up. Andre Ward after this Smith fight will fight again in 2018 so he won't be a threat.

Ironically I doubt he said it or it is taken out of context.

 

Believe me, some will... Some people get really offended when someone calls Golovkin better as their heroes on P4P or even H2H basis.

I actually believe he's P4P the best at the moment. But Pound for Pound isn't measured in strenght/class per weight like the name indicates (who would be the best is they were the same size/weight) but on resume. And that's the thing you can't build if most the big names in your weightclass run for the hills by hearing your name or are declared bums when you dismiss them in a couple of rounds.

 

there isnt a guy on his resume that was built as a credible threat that got declared a bum postfight.....and the only guy you could say that "ran for the hills" is sergio...ok one guy...wow.....cotto isnt running for the hills...hes a friggin welterweight who doesnt belong in the ring with a career 160lb fighter

 

GGG is the best MW. But, he's not the best P4P. And I don't think he'd beat Ward, if they ever fought.
