All three commentators remarked on Lewis's lack of condition, Lewis ends one round landing a huge uppercut. What's weird about mentioning that? I don't believe even a prime Lewis takes out Vitali in 7 rounds but there's nothing wrong with the first two of his statements.
It's been suggested that Lewis would have no problem being motivated for a Fat Johnson. He had his taste of Klit and decided he didn't wany more of that. He wanted to see if he could lick Johnson, and he deserved that chance. Damn the WBC for forcing a free man to chose Klit over Johnson.
Lewis spent an entire year trying to get up for Byrd but found he lacked the drive and interest, but when a fat Johnson was dangled in front of his face...he felt that old hunger again.
If you watch the final round within the last 45 seconds or so you will see a short right that clips Vitalis head. The commentators at ringside don't mention this blow but it had a real effect. That punch hurts him greatly and he then stumbles into Lewis. Lewis then ends the round with a huge uppercut. Watching the end of this round it looks to me Vitali was ready to go. Lewis focused and in shape which he was not in this bout would have an easier night. As he did with both Rahman and McCall.
Ok buddy, if you want to insist nothing was wrong with your original statements than reword them completely until they form a more reasonable logic. Good for you.
You'd be surprised how people never seen this, partly because it wasn't spelled out to them by the commentators.
Its been suggested that the Moon is made of cheese. Lewis rematched the two men who beat him and knocked them out. He ducked no one.
It's similar to Ali Foreman. Watching the bout and listening to the commentators at ringside everyone thinks the ref stopped the fight before the count of 10! The absolute reality however is that Foreman was given the ten count. The issue was that due to the noise from the crowd the commentators at ringside mis heard the count. When they were counting "eight" the ref was counting "10".
great fight, would have been cool to see how it turned out a couple of rounds later. lewis is smart though, he stayed retired afterwards, realized he must have lost something.
And Vitali displayed the best beard of any heavyweight, IMO. His ability to soak up punishment was just amazing...but it makes yoiu wonder what an in-shape younger LL would have done to him.
Lewis wasn't fat at all complete myth... Vitali on the other hand was preparing for Cedric Boswell and was obviously the least prepared of the two. Pretty significant change of opponent wouldn't you say? Imagine if Vitali had a full camp preparing for Lennox, or if the cut hadn't opened up? Lennox lucked out. There's a reason he retired and ducked the lucrative rematch with Vitali. :deal
