That's an absurd statement, and you're only saying it now because you're mad at me for A)owning you in the other portions of this thread when you were arguing your points, and B) when you tried to bull**** and cop out. Nobody wou;d've thought some idiot who constantly brought up these points and defended them vigorously was just trolling. You're recanting everything now because you realize that otherwise, you'll have lost all credibility in this thread.

That was basically your entire argument. How is Robinson "not overrated" while all of the rest of them are? What a sweeping, ignorant statement.

You said it, not me. And your argument for your other points, considering evolution, technical skills, training, supplements, etc all still stands from your perspective, though you're changing it now because every one of those points has been shot down.

    Well, at least you learn.

Robinson fought something like 30 fights against Hall of Fame inductees. 200 fights total. Only stoppage loss came against a light heavyweight in nearly 100 degree heat.

Robinson had nearly 130 fights before he lost his second fight. He was willing to take risks, unlike Floyd. So what if he got dropped a few times? So would Floyd if he fought some of the fighters Sugar Ray faced.

Well, if you don't believe me that this thread was a joke, I don't know what to say. Anybody that knows me personally knows that I like to get people riled up and press buttons and then sit back like Jerry Springer and watch the circus unfold. I'll chime in once in a while and make certain statements to add fuel to the fire (some of them have an iota of sincerity). To respond to your question in regards to my "sweeping ignorant statement" about why Robinson wouldn't be overrated and some of the other older fighters were is that Robinson was the rarest of special fighters who had skills that stood the test of time and the points I made about advancements in training, nutrition, etc were sincere, and I can only imagine how great he would be in today's era.

He was good enough back then without today's advancements to have beaten any fighter now P4P in my opinion. That's saying a lot. I also believe that fighters back then on average were hungrier and tougher than today's fighters because they weren't making the money that today's top fighters make and hence the reason they had to fight so frequently. I'm sure you've seen modern fighters quit and not try as hard as you know they would if their next meal depended on it. It's really hard to compare fighters from different eras because times were so different and the advancements that have been made. Again, Robinson was special because his skills were timeless.

If you watch other sports, like running, hurdles, pole vault etc. where you can directly and numerically compare older athletes' achievements with the newer ones, you´ll see how results have genrally gotten better from the 40s. Why do you think boxing is different?

I also don´t see my point of the fact most boxers were semi-professional back at that time being challenged by anyone. Some of the fact that boxers don´t fight as often as then has to do with business/politics but some of it has to do with fighters like Robinson or Louis just being so superior to the many semi-pro or improperly trained fighters out there, that they could actually just mow throught the competition and very frequently. I´m sure they´d not be able to pull that off today.

The only sport that has improved is Athletics and that is because drugs are both hugely suited to the events and used by nearly every competitor. Most sports skill wise have gone backwards. All you have to do is use your eyes, give me a list of the greats and tell me who you think trumps them from the modern game(this being fighters operating now in their prime.

For a few reasons, boxing is not a sport based on athleticism the way those are. Also, it is not a sport that relies on one simple thing. Those sports all have one single variable, just one. Boxing has many, and those variables you can't judge on paper. Also, the talent pool in boxing continues to go down, while those sports are forever increasing in those regards.

Yeah, the lower level fighters that you'll see on film from time to time facing the greats, just as is the case with lower level fighters nowadays.

You vastly underrate the competition, and make it seem like there were only a select few good fighters, when in fact the 40's was the most talent laden era in boxing history.

Let's see how many times Mayweather's been dropped once he has 200 professional fights spanning all the way from lightweight to light heavyweight and has taken on literally dozens of Hall-of-Famers.
