Styles make fights. I'd bet Gamboa would paste him now, no disrespect at all to a great amatuer champion like Barthelemy by the way and I hope he does well in the pro's also. Interesting enough, Casamayor and Rigondeaux retain that typical amatuer scoring style, but both have ample punching power. Rigondeaux has more KO's than Gamboa did, even at the Olympic games, so you have to wonder... I look to your film Jay by the way about the situation, if it's not already viewable somewhere.:good
Barthelemy just has no power but he never struggled in any fight he was in. He should of KO them but that doesn't mean he struggled against them. Barthelemy last fight on the Tarver under card was against a fighter who record is 18-3 and it's only Barthelemy 8 fight. Barthelemy is no Gamboa but I think he can be a wrold champion in the 115lbs or the 118lbs division.
Here he is doing some very light sparring a long time ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-W_xCqvxy1Y
Lara seems really smooth and fluent. Hope he got out and turns pro. Last I heard, Rigodeaux was setting up a meeting with new president Raul Castro to see if he can box again. It made no mention of Lara doing the same, so maybe its true
That's one tough question to answer Tom, haha. If i recall correct they usually don't give/show height info during amateur bouts on tv.. don't think i have him on tape either to check..
According to a Turkish news report, Lara is hiding in Mexico and waiting for a visa to Germany. Gamboa's promoter Ahmet Öner is rumored to be behind the escape.
I don't know, but I also heard that Rigondeaux was petitioning Raul Castro to allow him to box again.
From the front page: Cuban Erlandis Lara have according to Bild Zeitung fled the country by boat with Arena Box Promotion financing it and is hiding in Mexico while awaiting the paper work to be done to travel to Germany. Meanwhile Guillermo Rigondeaux was supposed to have been on the boat but jumped off in the last moment.
