How would they have scored the fight? Iam just asking this coz it seems that it is just so damn confusd many casual fans. They thouht that mayweather did nothing at all. I mean what is the real goal of the sport? Hit and not get hit or is it to try stop your opponent, hurt him an ko him
Good question. There were more 10-10 rounds back then. Today 10-10 rounds are not encouraged. (which is stupid in my opinion because it leads to most of the controversey) That way of thinking results of Manny having to do extraordinary things to win a round while Floyd can just run away and do nothing and get credited with the round. Also back in those days the referee was one of the judges.
It is a fair question, yeah. But then, we're not in the 50's or 60's. Modern boxing is what it is and Floyd takes full advantage of what he can do, which he should.
Probably want to check into fighters like Willie Pep who won fights being the better defensive fighter who made his opponents miss and countered them beautifully. There is a reason that BHop, James Toney and Floyd Mayweather Jr are considered "throwback" fighters, because they fight in the style of the old time greats.
To me most throwback fighters would fight anyone, at anytime within reason. Floyd chooses to play the game instead.
This "might" have had credence in the Carlos Baldomir days, but who the **** hasn't Floyd faced? Go the **** away.
It just seems that Mayweather didnt do much to actually try to hurt Manny, that it really confuses casual fans a lot.
Sure, but the casual fan is never going to be a fan of fighters like Bernard Hopkins or Floyd Mayweather Jr. The casual fan loves fighters like Arce or Micky Ward, or Arturo Gatti who stands in the centre of the ring and throws big winging punches at their opponent while taking them in return. News flash, none of those guys fight till their 38 and remain undefeated. Floyd at 147 is never going to be a guy casual fans will appreciated. If they want to see Floyd at his offensive best, they should go back to his 135lb days and watch him destroy Corrales, or Arturo Gatti at 140. To true boxing fans, especially those who have laced up a pair and fought in the ring, we marvel at how amazing Floyd is at defensive, how he makes almost any fighter fight the pace he wants to fight and how easily he makes great fighters like Marquez, Mosley, Alvarez and now Pacquaio look.
