Not greater, but better. I'm on the fence, and so I ask the forum humbly -- who soared to greater heights within the ring?

Against an unknown opponent of equal weight that is the best of the best, a terribly fearsome pugilist, who would you rather bet your life on:

    Floyd Mayweather

    or

    Roy Jones Jr

Peak for peak it's probably Roy.

There's a about 4 questions being asked, but I'd pick Roy as well as far as who was better, but I think Mayweather has accomplished more.

Think I'll go with Roy. He barely lost a round in 10 years. And the one blemish he had in his prime was a DQ when he'd turned the fight around and was winning. A blemish he avenged about as convincingly as possible in the rematch.

It's not much in it since the only one who troubled (well, beat on my card) peak Floyd was a very good fighter, and Floyd won convincingly in the rematch.

But while both were close to untouchable at their peaks, Roy was the only one of the two with true one punch KO power and that's always great to have just in case, no matter how superior you are.

roy at his peak was a lot more entertaining than mayweather.

roy's ability and mayweathers promotional skills would've been something.

Mayweather. As much as he cherry picked he proved a lot more against better fighters, which says a lot about ****ty Roy's comp was.

    Roy.

He was that one guy (alongside Tyson) that you didn't think could lose.

Roy looked superhuman out there; he honestly did.

That's the trouble with thinking, the fact is they did both lose and badly to men they were expected to beat.

Mayweather hasn't lost, competing at the very highest level for 17 years.

Apart from that he is technically a better boxer than Jones without a doubt.

Jones has better comp (Hopkins, Toney, Griffin, R.Johnson, Harding), Floyd fought everyone when they were way away from their peak - apart from Castillo, Corrales and Canelo. Hopkins' lead right and Toney's shoulder roll were both working as well as ever, after or before.

Jones has more ability, too, especially athletically. Winning a round without taking a punch, knocking you out with his hands behind his back... come on.

It's a tough one, my inclination is Roy but that is solely his physical peak being so much more freakishly gifted than other fighters.

Roy at 168 (which I believe was his true peak) - he was the fastest, most powerful fighter in his weight class, capable of doing super human things in the ring... but his technique was never anywhere near as good as Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Floyd at 135 which I believe was his true peak was a legitimate knock out puncher who had great defense and would throw combinations after making his opponent miss.

It's a hard call, but peak for peak, I struggle to say anyone was better than the Jones Jr that just shat all over James Toney.

    LOL...

Toney and Hopkins, sure. But ultimately you can't say Hopkins nor Toney are better than Pacquaio, Mosley, Cotto, Marquez or ODLH, especially the Hopkins that fought Jones Jr.

The reality is Floyd has a much better career overall than Jones Jr, he fought tougher fighters, never lost a single fight doing it and didn't have the sharp decline once he hit his mid to late thirties.
