bit of a stupidly obvious statement. by definition, for pac to have won he would have needed more success, which could only have happened in a more exciting fight. having said that, i enjoyed it.
People are saying it sucked because at no point did both of them engage in a firefight. Mayweather was content to win an "amateur style" boxing match...and that is fine because he isn't a brawler. No one came close to being hurt and the public who isn't familiar with boxing expects a fight not so much the SPORT of boxing. Casual fans who expected fantasy more than reality.
Because it wasn't so very great. There were some exciting bits (like the few times pac landed solid) but the fight was mostly pac hitting air and Floyd landing straight right counters. After about 8 rounds it just felt like a foregone conclusion
You can't even call them casual fans Watching 1-2 fights a year is not a casual fan...I don't what it is...The word "fan" doesn't come into it though.
I've tried to 'warn' coworkers and non-boxing fans (who predominately made this fight worth $$$) that the fight could and most likely (tho I hoped I was wrong) look like this. In the office (jersey city) since I apparently represent 'boxing' I'm getting literally 100% of 'boxing sucks', 'boring' or 'mayweather ran away', over the wknd in manhattan I was surprised that most of the talk about the fight was people describing mayweather as a woman beater more than anything else. I believe the nypost has an article today about that again and his quote about 'why donate money to Africa, they did nothing for me, etc' my response has been watch ESPN2 this Friday, south philly Mansour-dawejo, should be what you want to see. and for free.
The funny thing is all the "fan friendly" fights are ones which these casual dimwits wouldn't watch or be aware of anyway... Their ignorance their loss.
Because the majority watching this fight are clueless casuals who don't know how Mayweather actually fights. With YouTube literally providing every single Mayweather fights to leisurely view, some idiots actually expected Mayweather to charge in like Mike Tyson.
Because it's like watching game 7 of the NBA finals with the other team winning a low scoring game by hack-a-shaqin, flopping, etc..
I was hammered when I made this thread... That's all you need to know I probably enjoyed the fight more than I should have as a result.
No, it sucked independently of people's expectations. Even for those of us who kinda expected it to suck, it still sucked. It's suckiness is an absolute. If the whole world was blind, or Mayweather v. Pacquiao was staged in an empty forest with no one around to perceive it, and trees fall silently ... it still sucks.
Mayweather sucked. Bayless sucked more than Mayweather. Pacquiao sucked more than Bayless. And, Roach out-sucked everybody.
