why is it that fighters walk around at a much higher weight than what they fight at? like ricky hatton, he fights at 140 pounds but walks around at over 170. :scaredas:

do they only train when a fight is coming up or something? i'm 170 pounds, does this mean i should be fighting at 135?

Some are lazy and after months of hard training and dieting just completely let themselves go... If its 2 3 or 4 months until another camp thats a huge amount of time to stack on weight... Some great example of this are Ricky Hatton and Roberto Duran... Fighters like B-Hop, Mayweather e.t.c are ones that keep themselves in relatively good shape though which i think is smart...

yea most of the pros that do that are slick as a fox when it comes to cutting weight for example well not that great of an example but remember vargas? how big he got after the movie alpha dog? he was over 200 pounds and for the mayorga fight he had to be at like what 165? well the reason it was delayed is because of some bleeding in his stomach and you know what he got that from? The diet stack called the Eca stack! he was stacking Ephedra, caffiene and aspirin so much that it ****ed him up!

    Rebound effect.

Push yourself to one extreme and you will soon find yourself at another unless you are over cautious.

These boxers know that they can make weight again and so walk around in what ever state they want.

You're an amateur so you won't pull it off anyway. Amateurs have to be ready to fight all the time, since you never know when a match will come up. You can't go into a training camp to get the weight on.

I do put some weight on myself in summer when I stop boxing, since I'm a stocky guy and I add weight if I dont train every day. But during the season when I'm competing i walk around at my fighting weight. I think that goes for most amateurs unless they really cut weight for a specific big tournament.
