While the Mayweather vs Pacquio fight was a dud, I happen to think modern boxing is experience a bit of a renaissance. Boxing had a very good rookie class in 2014, and has a plethora of talented fighters in their prime who go out and produce either knockouts, or flash big time skills.

    GGG
    Kovalev
    Bieterbiev
    Thurman

    Absolute destroyer types!

    Crawford
    Lomachenko

    Ultra skilled boxers!

While the heavyweight division hasn’t been great, Wlad is chasing history and the fight with Fury I think will be entertaining while it lasts. It seems the USA has its two best heavies in years in Wilder, and Jennings.

So let Maywetather and Pacquaio fade away. There’s plenty to like, and much of it is on TV or cable where you won't have to pay $100.00 to see it.

Don't forget Anthony Joshua and a possible rejuvenation of the heavyweight division.

Boxing is heading to a great place, pretty sure of it. Many fantastic talents rising, so watch this space.

Okay, sure. Joshua has top ten ability, size, speed, and power, but journeyman like chin. Once Wlad retires, he could be " the man ", though I see two better in the amateurs.

Bottom line is this. While Mayweather and Pac was disappointing, the majority of televised fights are not! Even the judging seems a bit better lately.

He's the best pure athlete the heavyweight division has seen in a long time. Yeah, his chin is the only real question for me. I don't know if the next "era" will see anyone better than Wladimir, but I expect a deeper field with more exciting match-ups.

I'm excited to see the development between; Thurman, Crawford, Brook, Garcia in and about their weight classes; Rigondeaux, Lomachenko, Frampton in their weight classes; GGG, Alvarez, Ward, Kovalev in their weight classes.

I just wonder about Saul. He seems to be stuck in no man's land because of his body build. How does he really maintain effectiveness by going any higher than middleweight, and even at middleweight he's going to often potentially be outmatched given that he'll have to get past consistently longer reaches and jabs to get off his offence.. and he's no Joe Frazier, he's not wild and reckless. He comes across as a guy who needs to stay in 154 for as long as possible. He won't be much of a weight-skipping champion.. not suited.

You have a few divisions each containing a few exceptional fighters. But in terms of depth? probably not.

I'm not sure where the Joshua having a bad chin thing has come from. His chin stood up against a lot of big hitters in the amateurs and he's yet to be hit properly in the pro's.

Well, he appears to have a massively strong neck which will soak up a lot of power and act as a great "suspension" for his head. We'll see then.

17-0, 17 KO's. A terror at Cruiser weight. Might be big enough to move to heavy as he's nearly 6'3" tall.

Dude is scary. Let's see how he adjusts to more elite boxers, tho.

I think the Pac-May fight may have been a coffin nail to the casual fan demographic.

    Seamus.

It was a coffin nail for even some enthusiasts. If the may=pac fight is the best boxing can offer today, then boxing has lost its mojo.

    Cue the fat lady.

I have the opposite view. PPV is going down in cost, and there are many exciting prime boxers on regular TV or cable.

    Forger the casual fans!

The fans of boxing who stopped watching due to MMA or lack of excitement I think are coming back to boxing. In addition the younger fans see to like what they are seeing.

why do you say his chin is questionable, he has fought well in top levels of amateur boxing and has done well so far as a pro....curious as to why you question his chin

Because he has been floored by punches a guy with a solid chin takes in the AM's. He has not been hit much as a pro.

Video is needed to show you what I'm talking about.
