Oscar peak fight was by far trinidad I. He was in the best shape of his life, buldging six pack and he moved like I had never seen before on his toes.

Absolutely! Quartey's only real loss is to Winky Wright. The fight against Oscar could've gone either way, and the "loss" to Vernon Forrest was one of the most blatant robberies that I've ever seen. Quartey was exceptionally talented....excellent in every aspect of the game, with no glaring weaknesses. I wish Quartey vs. Trinidad had happened....although I do fear that Ike might have lost that one, as Tito was truly great at his best. If Quartey hadn't taken so much time off from the sport he probably could've established a legacy similar to that of Oscar and Tito....but Ike doesn't have to fight....he's a very successful buisiness person.

He also lost to Vargas, and that was legit.

    agreed

considering how easily oscar outboxed tito, makes you wonder what quartey would have done to tito with his jab.

I know what you mean. I'd have a very difficult time counting a prime Trinidad out of any welterweight matchup though....I know that he could be kept at range and nullified with the right style, but people seem to believe that all anyone would've had to do would be to jab and show lateral movement in order to beat him....I don't subscribe to this notion at all. It could go one of two ways IMO. Quartey stays composed but still takes some serious lumps while giving Trinidad a beating en-route to a late stoppage or decision win....or Tito manages to turn it into an intense but controlled brawl and climbs off the canvas to ambush an exausted Ike en-route to a late stoppage.

This fight should've happened....there's no way that it wouldn't have been good.

I like him to watch, i was told about his jab by a friend a while ago, so i watched him against Oscar and i thought - 'short arms', anyway, when he got his jab into a rythm, he completely controlled the middle rounds with it i thought. His jabs just thuds right through his opponents face, its like a proper punch rather than a simple 'point-getter'. And its accurate aswell. When watching the Oscar bout, it looks as though Ike doesnt have much of a variety in his arsenal, just a great jab, a booming right hand and he's very tough and game for a tear-up whenever Oscar wants to trade, this is a good point i make about Quartey as i felt that what he did have won him the fight by 1 point. Thats a top-win imo, beating Oscar in his prime.

I give him a cuple of the very close rounds on the strength of his jab just edgin' it for him in those 1s. He'd give any ww a good fight imo.

Wouldve been great wouldnt it, Ike-Tito. I think it does take a top-class mover to beat Tito though, not just a good 1, Oscar beat him imo because he can realy employ lateral movemnt. I think Tito would beat Ike personally, Ike is game for a fight and i could see Trinidad luvin' that! Trinidad's chin is underrated, the man was never ever hurt at 147 or 154, alll flash-KDs until B-Hop done him. And his punches are so accurate, he would beat Ike imo. Just my opinion though

Ike was a very good fighter in his time, the only problem with Ike was that he was too dependent on his jab. Which was the case in his fight against Oscar after awhile Oscar seemed to realize this and eventually bullied him to the ropes in the 12th and hit him with numerous punches.

    Couple of things:

Ike hadn't fought in awhile when he fought Vargas and it showed.

De La hoya-Quartey was close.I had for Quartey but it probabely should hae been a draw.

The Forrest-Quartey bout was a robbery pure and simple.NOWAY Forrest won that.

Trinadad would not have fought Quartey. And if they did Quartey would have hammered him.Lets remember how many times Tito got knocked down when he was WW champ.

And no Quartey did not show Winky his defence. Its funny because these boxers all remind me of eachother in terms of defence:

    Winky
    IKE
    Marlon Starling
    Harold Brazier

I disagree that he would beat Trinidad though, not bein' argumentative, i just dont see it. He could do, just not imo. Trinidad was never ever hurt at 147, not once, them KDs were just flash everytime and he normaly got up and finishd it there and then. I just dont think I ke moves enough and he's game for a fight , which means Trinidad does well here. Tito's punches are of the most accurate in ww history, together with THAT power made him great in every-way imo. He was a dominant force, i did have Oscar beating him, but styles make fights. To beat him you have to move at the highest level, a good mover would get stopped, u had to be great.

I cant see Ike winning this, great fight though, wouldnt dissapoint

Tito was clearly hurt in quite a few of his knockdowns.

Not usually on the verge of being stopped or anything, but more than just balance issues.

i seem to remember an early pre-title fight in particular where he was all over the place.I can't remember the opponents name.

I was just makin' the point that people talk like he was like Nigel Benn or somethin' , some guy who goes alll out and can be caught and taken out, not the case.

I never saw that pre-title fight, but in his prime at 147, the man was never in trouble (being stopped-wise)

Trinidad was chinny and could be wobbled and stunned quite easily, especially early in fights, but the guy was resilient as ****. Look at the beatdown he took from Hopkins before he was stopped. I don't see Quartey ever dispensing that kind of punishment to Tito.

Quartey was resilient too, but he was clearly hurt more in the Lopez and DLH fights than Trinidad ever was at 147. With Trinidad's greater power than either of those two, I'd say Quartey wouldn't survive the fight. I wouldn't say that unreservedly though, because Ike was a proud man with a lot of heart and determination.
