Plus the split would probably be 70-30 in Floyd's favor.

He would easily command close to $200 million when PPV buys and bonuses are taken into account.

 

If they can sell Maidana x2, Guerrero, Algieri, Rios ... then they can surely sell a rematch. It is still by far the most lucrative fight to be made ... unfortunately.

The hype will be easy to build up again. People will forget the sour taste of the first one, Pacquiao comes back healthy (they claim), Mayweather beats Khan or DSG. Mayweather attempts to break Marciano's 49-0 and fight Pac for 50-0 in the rematch in 2016 and call it a day. We will all be on the bandwagon again and probably get swindled again.

I think you underestimate how many Pacquiao fans there are, and how many would be happy to see their champion get a second chance. And they'd eat up the injury excuse easy.

Trust me, casual fans will buy into the injury narrative. I've told all my friends and family and they're already on board. It's not hard to convince them, lol, and they're the ones that really makes PPV buys what they are.

1) Pacquiao is a worldwide phenom, Canelo is not
2) Pacquiao lost and is still a worldwide phenom, Canelo still isn't and never was
3) Injury narrative

It's still the two superstars of the sport going at it. Ok? Maybe boxing fans won't buy it, but casuals definitely will because it's likely the only names they know lol

 

Leave the forum and go read what's being said in comments elsewhere. You'll see a lot of "if Manny were 100% he would have won easily" or "Floyd paid someone to hurt Manny" or "Manny was robbed". And you have people like Skip Bayless and Evander Holyfield leading the pack of declaring Manny really won the fight.

So yeah, people might feel upset about being robbed their hard earned cash or that the fight didn't live up to expectations. But Manny's got a nation of Filipino worshipers ready to scream loud and proud all over the world that the 1st fight doesn't count. And add that with the millions of Floyd haters out there and you got the built in added excuse to make a rematch.

This is a time where everyone has a computer, iphone, or ipad so their voices can be heard. It's all about supply and demand. And then watch the same result happen and people start looking for a finger to point at everyone else instead of the man in the mirror. This is Floyd/Maidana 2 all over again. WELCOME TO THE SOCIAL MEDIA AGE!!!!!!!

No need for a rematch, nor am I particularly interested. However I think they can definitely sell it to casuals and it would be a nice pay day to see both legends go out on.

Anyhow from a marketing perspective to casuals they can easily sell more by bringing prices back to normal. Mayweather can say he will go for the KO. Pacquiao can say he is 100%, that he won the first fight. They can do highlights where Pac was aggressive and question who won the fight based on aggression. This would easily outsell a fight against any other opponent.

Again I think Mayweather won handily, but just things they can do to sell the fight.

 

They can also market it by giving the two easy rebound fights to look great in. Make Pac look in great form again and like he deserves the rematch. They can also market that Mayweather will try and break 50-0.

 

Well I'm more on the side of that I'd rather they not have a rematch. I'd only watch if my friends are inviting and I just like watching boxing. However thinking as a businessman it would be best in May of 2016 since Mayweather will for sure fight in September and Pacquiao won't be ready. May can take on a moderate level opponent. As far as on Pacquiao's it will depend on how serious the injury and recovery time.

 

If this rematch does happen, I doubt Floyd fights in September. He only fights in September cause of the whole Showtime deal, but Showtime isn't gonna waste their last guaranteed fight with Floyd on some bum if there is talks of a Pacquiao rematch. This is about money remember. I'm almost positive they will give Floyd the exemption of fighting in September, in order to encourage him to get the rematch next May.
