Don't put words into my mouth.

Honestly, his level of competition has gotten better over the past year/year and a half, but I think this is a point of stagnation for him taking on Monroe (who's actually not a bad fighter at all- he's a slickster and definitely has some skills.) But Cotto has a voluntary defense, and GGG doesn't want to remain inactive while waiting for a Cotto fight to potentially be made.

He doesn't wanna go down the Amir Khan route, and I don't blame him. Why stay inactive for a long period of time if you're not guaranteed anything down the road?

I just hope he gets the big name fighters in the ring soon. I just think that Cotto might end up going the Mayweather or Canelo Alvarez route instead, leaving Gennady without a big name partner at 160. SO we'll wait and see.

But you can't complain about a guy who's ambitions are to clean out his weight division. That's a real fighter.

:good I'm not thrilled about the Monroe fight either but Monroe is a solid fighter and I'd rather see GGG fight more often than less often.

Let's see your P4P top 10. I think it could be quite telling.

His detractors are just as bad, if not worse than some of his more ignoring fanboys. He's clearly the man to beat at MW, there's nobody there who can touch him, and he's obviously a very special fighter. Anyone who denies that is just delusional.

 Touchy touchy. Just agreeing with a fellow boxing fan who seems to understand the landscape a little better than you.

GGG is a legitimate and best middleweight right now. he is an uncrowned middleweight champion. i bet floyd will avoid him and cherry pick past prime cotto. believe that.

I didn't mean it like that, but you made it seem like I was calling his stay busy fights "bums." Willie Monroe is not a bum at all, he's just not a step up from his previous fight with Murray.

Agreed... And it's really hard to give him any flack with all of the shenanigans that's going on in the division. Cotto sitting on a belt not fighting at all for literally a year, Quillin literally going as far as dropping a title in order to avoid facing him :patsch

Now Lee's out, and he's still got his mandatory BJS to face(that's assuming he beats Eubank jr) so it doesn't seem like he'll be able to unify the decision until at least sometime in 2016. Cotto should be stripped if he beats Geale and refuses to fight GGG.

It took me a while to get on his bandwagon, but the more I watch him fight, the more impressed I am with him just from a technical standpoint.

He has a really well rounded skillset. Great ring general and he has P4P power to boot. He's no spring chicken so it would be nice to see him only taking on big name/highly rated fighters now.

You know, I've never heard of a fighter getting criticized for wanting to wipe out his division until GGG got on everyones boxing radar.

How can someone get insulted for just wanting to unify his weight class?

Yep, it's a sh*t show of a division. I don't honestly have a problem with Cotto not wanting to fight him (I wouldn't if I was Cotto). I just think the way he's going about his business is disgraceful at this point. Saying that GGG hasn't "earned his shot" and then signing to fight one of his leftovers a week later. Time to vacate or be stripped if GGG isn't next after Geale.

It's a strange phenomenon indeed. I don't know what to put it down to besides xenophobia. Hopkins ruled MW with an iron fist for 10 years and we love him for it. Hagler did the same thing and both men had their fair share of 'easy' title defenses (Hagler less so) while waiting for the big fights to get made. And I never heard anybody whining about B Hop fighting a 'blown up WW' when he boxed circles around Tito or put Oscar down for the count.

My only concern with him is the age. He may not be able to maintain prime form long enough to create a "GGG era" at MW if he chooses to stay and clean out the division. He really got messed about in Germany from a promotional sense while the powers that be were focusing on keeping Sturm on top. He's as technical a KO artist as I've seen in a long, long time.
