Who should Mayweather's next opponent for September be? Here's a list of possible opponents and why or why not they are available. Please feel free to point out any typo's or factual errors.

WELTERWEIGHT

Kell Brook

Holds the IBF title
Currently scheduled to face Frankie Gavin on May 30th. He'd have plenty of time to prepare. I don't like his chances much but he's a legit contender with good timing. The PPV would probably flop and if people thought Mayweather vs Pacquiao was boring... expect a ton of jabs and feints. Chances of this fight happening are pretty slim due to several reasons: lack of demand, stylistic match up, and Brook is reportedly entertaining a Pacquiao fight.

Amir Khan

WBC Silver champion. (#1 contender to Floyd's to-be relinquished title)
Scheduled to fight Chris Algieri on May 29 in Brooklyn... has he been reduced to Friday night fights? Is he Algieri-level now? Any way, this is an interesting match up stylistically and could sell fairly well since Khan has a following and a name. His only decent win in the last 4 years is Alexander; he's 2-0 at 147 so that's a plus. Is he worthy? Depends on who you ask. He'd almost be a guaranteed opponent had it not been for the invention of Ramadan. Tough luck...

Lost a competitive match to Pacquiao in 2014 with a spirited effort and a poor game plan. Then robbed of a W against Diego Chavez of all people... (I didn't score this fight). He doesn't have anything lined up so far and some argue he's shot; P4P material but over rated by a select minority is more fitting. I don't believe he has the tools or size to give Mayweather problems but he's a legit candidate nonetheless, no matter how you feel about his head. I don't think this fight likely at all since he's 0-1-1 in two years...

Thurman doesn't have anything scheduled for 2015 after slapping Guerrero around and giving him his first career KD. I like Thurman, but I only give him a puncher's chance. He's got the size and the power to trouble Floyd but not the skill. He proved he's not a one trick pony by boxing Bundu and that he can throw with conviction while backing up when he faced Julio Diaz. He's not outboxing Mayweather and I think he gets picked apart since he's too green but I'd still like this fight. It's also the 2nd most likely (behind Khan) since he's a top contender, a solid name, under Haymon, and uhhh exciting.

SUPER WELTERWEIGHT

Erislandy Lara

The slick southpaw from Cuba! Scheduled to fight on June 12th on Spike TV vs TBA (who da **** is dat?!) Seeing as how his bout will be close to September, if it's quick work, it's very possible. He's got the style and size to give Floyd nightmares. He's an inch taller, longer reach, southpaw, has good timing, and fights at range. This would be a very interesting chess match and great to see two brains at work. Lara got an unlucky split loss vs Canelo but went on to win a unanimous decision in a fight nobody knew was happening against Ishe Smith. On paper, he's a likely opponent. But in the business world, he's invisible. Doctor's would prescribe this fight to insomniac patients... sorry, purists.

Scheduled to face Anthony Mundine on May 9th for the WBC Silver title... who are we kidding? He's not even in the conversation.

Demetrius Andrade

Nothing on his agenda in 2015. He's a tall ass Jr middleweight that'd probably give Mayweather a run for his money, literally. Undefeated, 6'1", and a southpaw; Boo Boo is a night mare for most fighters in his class, if not all. This fight is very unlikely to happen due to the risk/reward factor.

MIDDLEWEIGHT

Miguel Cotto

Cotto just demolished old grandpa knees last year and is now holding the WBC title hostage, or was... He's scheduled to face former Golovkin victim, Daniel Geale, on June 6th in MSG. He would have enough time for training camp in time for a Mayweather fight in September assuming he doesn't take too much damage against Geale. Reinvigorated by Roach, some think Cotto is like a brand new opponent for Floyd. He's a very possible opponent for Floyd since he's a big name, exciting to watch, and an easy route to another division for Floyd. Maybe he'll make the other nostril bleed this time?


Gennady Golovkin

WBA Super Champion, WBC Interim Champion
You'd have to pinch yourself if this gets made. Golovkin is set to KO Monroe Jr on May 16th and would have PLENTY of time to prep for Mayweather in September. Golovkin presents an extremely intriguing match up, but an amazingly risky one too. He's got the power to put Floyd into a coma or make him **** blood. He's a very good boxer as well and cuts off the ring like circumcision. The ONLY draw back I'd give him a fight with Floyd is his speed. But he'd probably overcome that deficit by trapping Floyd and pounding the body. His connect % would be almost a record low but it probably wouldn't matter. A great, legacy increasing fight, but I wouldn't bet on it. Golovkin has everything a Mayweather candidate needs except for, you guessed it, a favorable match up.

JR WELTERWEIGHT

Danny Garcia

Arguably 28-2, Danny Garcia has nothing scheduled. Stylistically, Mayweather makes him his puppet. Of course this fight wouldn't take place at 140, it'd have to be at 147. Garcia is what Floyd-haters claim Mayweather feasts on: slow, flat footed, punch-telegraphing plodders of Latin/Hispanic descent. This fight is very possible but I wouldn't bank on it for two reasons: 1) too much criticism for even entertaining the idea and 2) Danny's stock has dropped after receiving two gifts and a cherry in his last 3 fights. AND I LIKE DANNY!! Don't hold your breath.
