The actual fight has been discussed on here recently and I saw some dissention on who was the better counter puncher... So I thought I'd make a thread and see what the general consensus was.

Whitaker in my opinion, mostly based on the fact the he countered more often. I think his offense was better, he threw more punches and with more variety. He would counter from any angle, the opponents were never safe. Floyd on the other hand has an unreal connect precentage, so you could make an argument for him. But Whitaker is my guy when it comes to counter punching.

Whitaker countered more often, but also failed the counter more often, Floyd counter less often but almost always lands due counter.

    Think it's close for floyd

Whitaker had more options available to him. Hence, his counter punching was not as selective. Offensively, that makes for a more effective and varied counter puncher. On defense, however, it contrarily leaves openings for clever, well-timed ripostes. On the whole, I think this is one of the few facets of the game where Mayweather has the edge over Pea.

I'd give it to Floyd; it's been said but I put high stock in accuracy and efficiency of punches. Mayweather's connect is crazy high and that's always impressed me, when he counters its not just an answer, its THE answer to that situation at an angle that doesn't leave him vulnerable.
