    Round 10

Avila is working the jab, low-to-high, pulling it to his waistline and then immediately out again. Ruiz tries jabbing with him but is getting outlanded. Ruiz is easing off, headbutting into Avila's fist to flatten the jab and leave it crumpled in the air. Ruiz is dropping his face to either side and flinging his own jab up, trying to catch Avila unawares. Combos by Ruiz coming forward. Counter hook by Avila but he is backed up by a left on the eye. Avila is dancing to his left, controlling distance, staying off Ruiz's jab. Avila is flashing a double jab coming forward, pulling out, right glove up by his chin, for show. Avila is caught by a right hand lead, ducking and rolling with it, then skipping away. Quick push-jabs by Avila, going flat-footed. Combo by Ruiz.

    10-9 Avila

    98-92 Avila

The late Joe Rein (John Garfield) sang his praises, and I can see why. He knows his stuff.

Don't want the guy to get hurt, but Avila did box well once the right hand was injured.

100-90 is a bit harsh. Thought Ruiz shaded one or two rounds.

None of the unbeaten kids televised had a single round scored against them by the judges tonight, sweeping the 'opponents' 23-0 in rounds.

Avila was literally a one-handed fighter in those last 3 rounds, I believe he never threw a punch with his right hand in those rounds. Ruiz must have realized Avila was injured, yet he still fought those rounds at a slow, cautious pace, with low punch output and mediocre footwork and ring movement. lt was especially strange, since he did do some good things earlier in the fight, and I agree he probably shaded a couple of the rounds, certainly the 1st round anyway. I did not catch from the broadcast that he took the fight on short notice, but even so, for someone that trains with Robert Garcia and spars with the likes of Lomachenko, Cuellar, and Gradovich, his approach in those last 3 rounds left plenty to be desired.
