    Lets say its at 140.

Chavez by stoppage, JCC can everything Cotto does, is more skilled, and has a granite chin.

What does that prove? Chavez was not an effective Welterweight. The weight was too high for him. But put Mosley in the ring with Chavez at 135 or even 140. Mosley couldn't keep an aggressive Vernon Forrest off of him. Imagine what a swarming Chavez attack would have done? The only reason Cotto would have a chance at 147 is due to sheer size. Cotto is too large physically for Chavez at that weight. But even with the skills Cotto has now, put him in the ring at 140, Chavez would still take him. Does anybody really think Winky Wright would have defeated Tito at 147? With the lower weight fighters weight is terribly important. Sometimes a fighter will go up in weight and face a barrier he cannot cross.

It proves exactly what my point was: that Chavez wasn't best suited for welterweight and that he was better at 130, 135, and 140.

The poster I responded to brought Mosley into the equation saying he was better at a lower weight class and still managed to give Cotto big problems. My points served as evidence that he was better at 147 than Chavez, so his reasoning didn't hold any weight as to why Chavez would beat Cotto at welterweight.

Cotto has obviously beaten better fighters at 147 than Chavez has, but I still don't see how Cotto beats the Chavez that Whitaker faced.

Even if Chavez is smaller (and comes in at 142), he's still more skilled, better defensively, has a better chin, better stamina and better body punches.

At 140 Chavez wins pretty easily, at 142 to Cotto's 147 I still pick Chavez to stop Cotto late or win a 7-5 type of decision.

Exactley, Good point, But the thread did say Prime's. Chavez was past his at Welterweight. & Cotto seemed to hit his Prime at Welterweight. So it's a bit like comparing apples & oranges. So in the spirit of prime vs. prime irregardless of weight Chavez holds the advantage, But if Cotto continues on the path he is going, the verdict in future comparisons will be very tight indeed.

It's going to be fun watching Cotto's career progress. He continues to improve a little bit in every fight.

Chavez @ 140 Would have Gobbled up Cotto just like he did Rosario.
(Who was @ the time The hardest Puncher @ 130/135 when they fought)
    Broke him down, & eventualy a K.O.

I Like Cotto, but he is defo not in the class of a Chavez.
Miguel is just the "New" kid on the block.

Trinidad @ 140 also destroys Cotto.

Rosario is much more unstable than Cotto.
Camacho seriousely lacked power @ 140 etc.
Taylor? Impressive, but a bit dumb. He is less versatile than Cotto.

Taylor may be less versatile, but I bet he'd shut Cotto out.

It's easy to bet on fights that will never happen.

Cotto can take away Meldrick's speed advantage by a couple of lowblows, as usual.
