Before Canelo it was fragile but not glass. After Canelo...Well we shall see but I'm thinking that Canelo has ruined Kirkland.
I re watched the fight. He took several flush shots that woukdve downed anyone in that weight class. His chin ain't granit, but it aint glass... His defense is appalling andfir a guy on that level do t understand how it's not better.
Three reasons his defense is not better. He's not that bright. Two, forget about what you have heard about Ann Wolfe, he has not had good training. But the guy is a brawler at heart so when it gets heated up he abandons any semblance of defense. Three, see number one.
Kirkland always put himself in situations to be hit with enormous punches e.g. the Conyers fight, but I don't know now. His brain has been legitimately hurt for a long while now, I think it's partly due to rough fights and partly due to Wolfe's training methods. Dudes who train like that end up very punchy and their chin usually goes bad (Terry Norris comes to mind)
I do agree, it appears his training ain't that great. Anne Wolfe or not, last night he didn't look that skilled. I realize it's Kirkland, I guess I was surprised how bad he looked once his brawler stle didn't work, and tried the shoeshine sppriach, only to try and load up and get sparked brutally. That knockout was so brutal, Before the rep,ay, I thought it was staged, with him looking for a way out. Yeah, it wasn't.
His defense is bad, therefore he takes more flush punches. His heart is big, so he can take punishment. It's not as simple as Kirland having no chin.
The problem aint the chin, its his defense. He has one of the worst defense of any boxer I've seen at the moment. Canelo was loading up as much as possible to a clean target with no guard, any man would go down from those shots.
Defense has absolutely nothing to do with how good someone's Chin is. An Iron Chinned fighter doesn't need defense. Your Chin is the second line of defense. If you have one you stay in the fight if you don't you get knocked out. It always comes down to the Chin it has nothing to do with defense, being 'weight drained' etc.
Defense doesn't cover the fact that Canelo floored Kirkland twice, then brutally KO'd him. If you have a weak chin, great defense can help greatly, but you'll still have a weak chin.
