Honestly i dont really see the similarities...

Vargas was a very good boxer... but stance, footwork, attack, retreats, jab, cross, hook, ect... were all differant, more stand up.

Cotto is like a bull.... hunched over, much much much more body attack... ect.

The one thing and really the only thing to ME and IMO that are very similar is that both are very very patient offensive minded fighters when they want to be... very very mature for their age and ring experiance (in the ring) meaning neather panic, ect,

But STYLE wise, PERSONALITY wise, and CAREER wise... i dont really see a comparison.

come on papa cotto did not throe this blow intensionally it was more of a academy award winning act by Judah . like wen tony montana got shot at they end of scarface, it was a act. Judah never hurt cotto maybe stun him but never hurt him. Judah was looking for help from the ref.

Yeah, without the Hype & attitude. Cotto appears to be very workmanlike & grounded very well. Vargas believed his own bull**** & it ruined him. Remember the huge entourage at the Olympics & he didn't even win the Gold!

No, Cotto is a prime Cotto.....and we should not assume we've seen his prime just yet......
Yes Vargas was great but not for that long mates
Cottos reign of domination has been going on for a few years and will continue for many more
When it's all said and done Vargas wouldnt even be the same realm as Cotto....
Cotto is approaching great heights only acheived by a few.....none of them are named Floyd Mayweather....

Different styles. Cotto's BETTER! And I loved young Vargas. His fight with Quartey is one of my fav's.

Cotto showed with SSM he's a step above, he can BOX his ass off. Fernando would always slug a bit too much. Whatever some might say? Vargas was never the same after Trinidad. Nando went out like a warrior that night and left a piece of himself there in that ring. Where as Cotto is smart enough to avoid those temptations and waits for his time and openings.

Fernando was thrown to wolves way to early in his Boxing life.
he had no business being in there with the Trinidad's De La Hoya's ect.. @ 20 years of age. Vargas had the worst managment team in the history of boxing.

That being said, Cotto & Vargas couldn't be further apart when it comes to style. Fernando was without a doubt the hardest & biggest (Physicaly)punching 147lbs pound fighter I have ever seen. when he was not fighting he would walk around @ 200lbs+ easy. His lack of condition & focus when in between fights cost him a bright future in this sport. (Plus his ****ed up management team)

Cotto on the other hand has been brought along well, his fights have defo been hand picked and taylor made for him. and his progression has surpised everyone that watches boxing. dude seems to be getting better everytime out. but from this point on, I see nothing but hard fight for Miguel. Cotto has reached the top, now his fight's from this point on will truly tell what he is made of. (get ready for his prime)

Vargas fought mostly at 154 and fighting Winky Wright and Ike Quartey were major fights against the top opposition that prepared him for Trinidad and DLH. Vargas own misgivings cost him in those fights.
I definitely would have stopped the Trinidad fight which cost him a lot. Thats why DLH was finally willing:good

He was a young world Champion and made a lot of money. There's certainly worse tales.

No doubt! (The 147lbs Vargas was a beast tho..)
Fernando defo reaped the rewards, he made some good change.

And Vargas was never in a dull fight..
I'd still pay to watch dude roll out there.

you're ****ing insane...Don't compare Vargas to Cotto...Miguel jabs better, consistant with the body attack....and smarter boxer, Also Cotto can adjust round to round...not fight to fight like vargas.

Why? He said prime Vargas. The same one that beat Quartey.
