Average Below Average Above Average I would rate it above Average. I've only seen Canelo buzzed once when he was fighting at 147 when he was 21 against Jose Cotto. Also I though hard hitting Cintron stopped him on his tracks for a split second. Outside of those two isolated incidents, Canelo seems to have very good defense, underrated perhaps. Obviously his offensive skills is his bigger strength, but he actually has a good defensive game. Discuss... Slick and Red Team?
He has above average defense, but he sometimes just says **** it, and starts brawling like he did in the Kirkland fight.
Canelo has been in there with some very good punchers, and punchers with power. Despite having fought some top notch comp lately, aside the Jose Cotto punch in rd 1, and Cintron's punch, I haven't seen Canelo take many punches cleanly despite not using a Lara or Floyd style of running. Canel's defense is severely underrated.
Above average, his defense is one of his main attributes along with his shot placement/combination punching.
