The only reason it was somewhat bearable to watch was because Trout took on the aggressor role and was competely out of his element, but they had to somehow engage....

So maybe defensive boxing would be about who can make the other defensive fighter the aggressor... He who is most aggressive loses the fight! :yep

who sayed f the fundamentals of boxing. then you have guys like floyd and even bhop to and extinct.

    BS.

If that is the case we would see most gyms teaching pot shotting, clinching, and back-peddling...

But this is a combat sport, so what you learn in most boxing gyms that teach pro boxing is how to hurt your opponent.

That's bs. You also learn how to slip and parry punches. Maybe at the gyms you go to you only learn how to block punches with your face. That would explain most of your posts.

No, I mean defensive style fighting...

Sweet science = Julio Cesar Chavez
Bob and weave, deflect punches, time opponents while staying at firing range to attack, counter attack, and keep enaged.

    Defensive fighting = Lara, Mayweather
Don't hit too much otherwise you'll get hit too.

As I said, not everybody can use the style. The pros know all these techniques, believe me, but everyone uses what's most effective FOR THEM.

Of course you learn to use defense while staying in the pocket. But what Lara and Mayweather to large extent is hit and run away or clinch. Different.

Mayweather stayed in the pocket against Alvarez and made him look like a novice.

I guess you hate the Pea Whitaker-Chavez fight to don't you? Pea gave Chavez a boxing lesson but let me guess he ran all night right?

That's why if you're scared of being hit but you still want to have huge success financially, don't become a boxer...

Mayweather is the obvious exception, mainly because people don't tune in to watch his craft, but to watch him lose...

Mayweather is a rarity in the sense that he is boring as hell but he still pulls in the numbers... If you can't get attention with your fighting style, get them with your ******* personality.

If everybody used defensive fighting alot of us would go watch the rise of some street brawl youtube vids. At the end of a fight we want to know who has won a fight not who has performed better in a professional sporting contest, which at the end of the day is what it is, but we cant help it.

Its prize fighting and its boxing at the same time. Some boxers have found a way of running away from a fight and winning the sports contest at the same time. Floyds done damn well out of it i just hope not too many young boxers see it as the future.

Pernell Whitaker was on another level.

This is a man who was a defensive genius who would stay in the pocket and punish his opponents...

Pernell usually matched his defense with his offense. Great balanced fighter.

One of the few fights where he was truly defensive mode was against ODLH, but for the most part and through most of his career Pea stood in the pocket and worked his craft mixed with superb defense and great offense.

Not everyone can make money being a defensive guru.. Look at Lara, Rigondeaux, for example...

Mayweather is the rare case where he can pull viewers, but I asure you it has more to do with his persona outside the ring than his performance inside the ring.
