It says a lot about the people asking GGG to move up

"Of course [I would like to face him at 154], it is my dream fight."

That was Golovkin a week ago talking about Floyd. His trainer has upped the anti even more:

“If he stays away from GGG he stays undefeated. The challenge for Floyd is ego,...Roberto Duran, a lightweight champion, moved up to middleweight to take on the great fighters, tested himself against the best in Marvin Hagler and battled to a decision 15-round loss. If Floyd doesn’t meet GGG at 154 what does that say about him?”

Loeffler tweeted that he was going to stop by the Staples Center to try convince Floyd to fight Golovkin(I believe he was joking about actually going to The Staples Center, but his point was still made).

 

Idiots would say he was a hype job how is going up to fight ward or froch two p4p guys and losing being exposed? Especially when you were basically forced to move up because no one wanted to fight you. If anything he would gain more fans.

 

Froch isn't going to fight him Pimp, the only big fight for him at 168 is Ward. I don't consider Dirrell or DeGale fights big.

 

GGG is a cool fighter but you guy's whine to much, the guy's is about to fight another bum in Monroe. Y'all talk about all these fighters ducking him and this is what your basing it off of.

I just find it funny how Cotto is this wuss because he's yet to fight GGG in his 4th division, when GGG is scared to move up 1 division that is unless he's fighting another borderline bum(Chavez jr).

Cotto/Canelo taking fight's in the interim before fighting each other isn't a duck Cotto/Canelo are both better wins than GGG. Canelo recent just fought Trout,Lara, Mayweather and will be fighting Cotto all of those name sh*t on whatever GGG has done. Cotto just beat the Lineal MW Champ Martinez and may very well beat GGG's best win in his next fight in 2 fight's he'd be a more credible MW on paper.

People want GGG to move up because there tired of him fighting bums using the he's ducking excuse, if your so bad and everyone is ducking you move up. A close loss to Ward or Froch is worth more than a blowout of Murray or Monroe

 

If you're going to defend Cotto/Canelo and whoever else for not fighting GGG, don't at the same time criticize GGG for fighting bums then.

 

I think Quillin is ducking GGG that's about it. Lara lost to Canelo and GGG ducked him Lara is better than any GGG opponent. It's always ways to get a good/great win if your ACTUALLY good you just have to try. Honestly I can't blame him there is no prime quality fight in the top 10/15 at MW so what can ya do but fight bum's like I said he's a cool fighter but OVERHYPED/OVERRATED for what he's done.

 

If the fight got made, at 154 or 160, Floyd would be favorite to win and would likely win. The problem however is the amount of damage he would take in order to win a fight like that.

Look at the issues he had with a big strong welterweight in Maidana. So I don't think it's a case of it being unwinnable, I think it's more a case that for your final fight, do you really want to take a bunch of damage from someone much bigger than you when realistically, you've proven all you need to prove.

 

I think every single one of Floyd's fights at 147 have been against guys that are credible challengers, with maybe the exception of Baldomir (but he was lineal champ at the time)

Even Maidana - that was on the basis of his victories against other fighters, including Broner and Khan. That's not a "stay busy" fight.

But you can't expect Floyd is going to fight someone who won't offer him a chance at 1M in buys when there are other guys out there that will get him there and arguably be more regarded by most boxing fans.

If you asked the general boxing fan who is the better fighter - Amir Khan or Gennady Golovkin, who do you think they'd say?

 

I've seen people asking Kovalev to move up away from Ward.

This "he has to move up" thing is all about moving the threat away from their favorite fighters.

 

I guess he could then beat up 168 lb tomato cans instead of 160 lb tomato cans. I think his preference is to fight a natural 140 pounder though, or a WW. If he fought Ward it would be one of the best boxing clinics ever given so he may not want that fight.

 

I would like GGG to move up too, and there would be no shame in losing, but I can also see the potential problem (from a financial perspective) in winning. If he were to campaign successfully at 168 he'd almost certainly kill all chance of the 2 biggest potential fights at 160 (Cotto and Canelo). I suspect this is a large part of the reason for the hesitation in moving up.

It is a shame because he certainly appears to be a level above at MW and I would like to see him challenged, but there is also a longevity issue - win or lose there actually isn't many top fighters @ 168 either (specially if the HBO Haymon beef continues) with Froch and Kessler retired/ing - Ward (obvs. though both sides acknowledge that ain't happening any time soon), Degale ,Dre Dirrell (Haymon), maybe Groves, shot AA, shot Sturm, a coupla of potential up and comers (Zurdo, Callum Smith, Fedor Chudinov)... but nothing that's really gonna either make him a superstar or impress much more than what he's doing @160.
