Do fighters ever take a fight they think they will lose?

I'm sure it happens quite a bit.

 

I'm pretty sure that Morales and especially his camp were a little weary about him facing PRIME PACQUIAO 3 months after the THIRD BARRERA war.

Did they expect him to win? Probably not, but he did. And did it like a boss.

 

All the time, I'd bet.

That doesn't mean they won't try or anything like that - but they know there's a fair chance they're out of their league and are just there for the cash.

 

Don't know if a fighter ever "knows" that he is going to lose a fight but Patterson against Liston, Spinks against Tyson and Frazier against Foreman were fights that the fighters were advised against taking. Well, maybe not Spinks but I think he is the only one that may have suspected that he was going to lose.

Some guys want to find out what they're made of. It's about finding out how good you really are.

 

No. If you face somebody really good there is the chance that you will lose.

If you're facing a prime ATG then a loss is definitely possible.

 

Everyone is willing to take a beating for a good payday, pretty much anyone who goes against Wlad for example.

 

I think the only time a fighter knows that they are going to lose is when they are just showing up for a check or have been paid off. Look at Douglas v Tyson. Do you think Douglas thought he was going to lose although Tyson was a huge favorite? That is the thing about sport, anything can happen and if you don't have faith in yourself then you shouldn't be in the ring.

 

Speaking of Morales, quite a few fights pop into my head.
Barrera III, Pacquiao II & III, Diaz, Maidana, Garcia I & II.

 

I'm pretty sure Morales thought he could beat Barrera before the 3rd fight.

After the Raheem fight he took so many fights that only a delusional man would think he had a chance.

What about Oscar? He went up in weight, drained weight. Old, young, prime, whatever. He fought so many fighters that were better than him at the time.

Some guys really just want to fight the best. And just have no fear of losing.

 

Amazing example actually, Hasegawa was very forthright and said "I think I'll probably lose"
