What was the first title fight that you remember watching?

Hatton vs Mayweather. May have seen one or two before but this is the first big one I remember.

 

Lennox Lewis' destruction of Mike Tyson. I was 10 years old and didn't know any better than to feed into the media hype. Therefore I hated Mike Tyson with a passion at the time because everyone else did. I had yet to take a look back and see what historical figure he is in the boxing world. At the time though, I loved every second of the brutal beating Lennox put on him. Having the knowledge of the fight game that I do today I have a much have a much greater appreciation for both boxers.

First title fight I knew about was Leonard-Hearns after my father picked up a Sports Illustrated with them on the cover at a Clark's Drugs. I was only 4 years old and kept asking my father if the good guy won. He said yes.

 

Tyson v Bruno 2... what a horrific introduction to boxing, seeing a national hero battered to within one punch of permanent blindness.

Rumble in the jungle. I believe it was in '74.

 

It wasn't a championship fight but a fight between two champions nonetheless: the battle of the z boys, saturday april 23 1977 in the afternoon, zarate vs zamora combined records: 67-0 (66)

 

Tyson was a monster.

I first saw SRR sparring in July 51 in Windsor for his fight against Randy Turpin. I think the first televised fight was Liston / Patterson 62, I can't remember when the old man first bought a T.V. set.

 

Ali vs Spinks I. I was in 1st grade. I didn't know sports but I knew Ali. He had s Saturday morning cartoon. He did roach commercials. He fought & beat Superman!! This was the first time I'd seen him fight though. We were flipping through channels & the fight was on cbs I believe. I remember seeing Ali with his gloves over his face & my mom explaining "that's defense". I went to bed & the next day, everyone at school was talking about Ali losing.

I didn't really start watching boxing until Tyson. I saw a bit of Holmes & Spinks but they didn't look anything like the Rocky fighters so I turned it off. Tyson vs Berbick was probably first.

 

...it might have been charles /walcott 2/.....home tv, but i'm not sure....could be some fight in the lighter weight divisions.....now that this is on my mind i'll have to look in the records books.
