You guys act like he is actually looking for respect. Mayweather had a plan since he started boxing, to make as much money possible no matter what. He accomplished that. He don't care about getting respect. He had a plan, stuck to it and got what he wanted. Like other people posted, Ali, Tyson and even Leonard, Camacho weren't well like, but now get respected based on their skills and emotions they caused on people, good or bad. In a few yeas people will forget and move on.

    Exactly.

Public persona + the criminal convictions + the style of "First rule, win at all costs, second rule, see rule one" + People repeatedly being disappointed that their guy couldn't beat him means he a loved fighter.

    But..

He's 1, 2 and 3 on the all time PPV purchases list and 1, 2, 4 and 6 on the all time money made per fight. He's undisputed as the best fighter of his generation and that will only enhance with time as guys like Alvarez continue their career.

You couldn't be more wrong there. FLoyd doesn't have a "win at all costs" mentality he simply just does enough not to lose. It's the main reason he gets so often booed and disrespected.

I think many of you are confusing love with respect. Mayweather is definately respected by many of his countrymen and people around the world, love is a whole other issue.

Guess you don't understand what "win at all costs" means.

He gets booed, because he fights fan favorites like ODLH, Hatton, Alvarez, Pacquaio, Cotto and Mosley and shuts them out of the fight.

You only need to look at the plaudits he gets from fellow fighters, such as Froch "I've never appreciated how brilliant he is until I saw him live and in the flesh" or Sugar Ray Leonard " Pacquaio will beat Floyd because he's stronger and faster than anyone Floyd will ever see" only to end up saying "Floyd is much better than I or anyone could possibly give him credit for"

Well, one of us sure as hell doesn't understand the term "win at all costs" means:lol: And the fact that you can't come to terms with the simple notion that Floyd gets booed mainly because he puts on what most boxing fans feel are boring performances explains it all.:deal

He will not be appreciated until after he truly retires, which is the case for most fighters.

He will be a top 10-15 ATG. That is irrefutable.

A lot of people thought Pac would be competitive. it turns out he was a scrub and only good when he waits on the sideline for someone to have a big loss.

You have to think back to Zag over Lacy for that kind of mismatch. Imagine if Floyd fought Pac back in 2009? Everyone would be using Pacquiaod instead of Lacyd.

"Whether you're paying to see me win or paying to see me lose...you're paying."

You have to have a certain kind of personality/humor to enjoy his arrogance and brashness. Luckily, I do.

Once again, Ali was hated when he was boxing. He was only really loved after his retirement.

It will be the same for Floyd.

Ali and Floyd are two very, very different people. I didn't exist during Ali's time- even long after- but correct me if I'm wrong... did Ali have domestic violence issues and the bad reputation that Mayweather has? Booed in his own country? Hated in his own country?

To me, it sounded like Ali was a world-wide phenom. A lot of haters, but a lot more people who loved him. That's how it's described at least.

Now, I love this Floyd. I'm not ragging on him. It's Floyd and his reaction to everyone hating him that amuses me. I'm just going off of what I perceive.

I never heard of Ali having domestic violence issues but there was certainly some adultery or infidelity whatever you call it.

But most people didn't know of that. People hated Ali because he was a trash talker. And a guy who bragged albeit often tongue in cheek.
People were used to the quiet and humble Joe Louis. Now Ali is dancing over the unconscious bodies of KO victims. It was a shock.

Plus,Ali was an inspiration to much of the black community. This also upset some of the older white establishment type of people.

And finally people hated Ali because he took that controversial stand against the Vietnam war. He didn't run away and hide. He flat out said "I will not kill those people and put me in jail if it makes you unhappy."

Turns out Ali was kind of correct in opposing a war the is viewed more and more unfavorable as time goes on. Ali was a guy of integrity.

All Floyd does is brag about his money. Floyd is a douchebag. Ali was a guy of integrity.
