NSAC brings the thunder - Huge changes to drug penalties

    Clearly, The NSAC want boxing to have a cleaner image after the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight and so here we are, harsher sentence for drug offenses (and avoiding or cheating a test)


    • Sedatives/muscle relaxants/sleep aids/anxiolytics/opiates/cannabis, 1st offense: 18 month suspension, 30-40% of purse; 2nd offense: 2 year suspension, 40-50% of purse; 3rd offense: 3 year suspension, 60-75% of purse; 4th offense: life suspension, 100% of purse
    • Diuretics, 1st offense: 1 year suspension, 30-40% of purse; 2nd offense: 2 year suspension, 40-50% of purse; 3rd offense: life suspension, 100% of purse
    • Stimulants (amphetamines, cocaine, etc.), 1st offense: 3 year suspension, 50-75% of purse; 2nd offense: 4 year suspension, 75-100% of purse; 3rd offense: life suspension, 100% of purse
    • Anabolic steroids/testosterone/HGH, 1st offense: 3 year suspension, 50-70% of purse; 2nd offense: 4 year suspension, 75-100% of purse; 3rd offense: life suspension, 100% of purse
    • Testing avoidance/cheating, 1st offense: 4 year suspension, 75% of purse; 2nd offense: life suspension, 100% of purse
    "A failed drug test will also now result in a loss, rather than a no-contest, so if you win a fight in Nevada and then fail a drug test for a diuretic, a steroid, marijuana, whatever else is banned at all times, you lost that fight."

    So...More fights in Texas then? :D

    Edit: Rico reminded me, this is for both Boxing and MMA. Also "the proposal is for these changes to go into effect on September 1, but this could certainly drag out a bit as there are likely to be at least some objections from fight promoters in every sport." So Expect it next year then :D

    Finally!

    I hope the other states follow suit. Also on the failing a drugtest results in a loss matter, wich I have been an advocate for for a long time.
    Hit them where it hurts, wich means money, big bans and losses on their records.

    Also glad duretic use gets large bans. For the people that don't get that part and think duretic use 'weakens', then they really should read up to the effects of Furosimide and such. Masking steroid use and being able to bulk up immensly on fightnight.

    Good that they're trying to go in the right direction, time will tell if it has any impact. I think there are too many parties in collusion on this issue for any changes to really happen. Sleep aids though, what's wrong with that?

    I would assume then that Chavez Jr. shall only fight in states that have legalized weed.

    So the "Jon Jones rule" is going to apply to fighters in a completely different sport that has no national commission and is not even an organization like the UFC?

    And what about the TMT stable? they have usually been Nevada based, but that gets really dangerous for them now.
    Can you imagine these rules were in place 2 years ago. It would have severely decimated the stable.
