Which Boxer had the least fight before winning a major title?

this is off topic really, as its not an answer to the question posed.

but in 1892...george dixon defended his world featherweight title against jack skelly who had* a one fight and one loss professional record.


*now...the kicker to that is skelly was an outstanding amatuer by all accounts...and this is 2015 and reading from info online, which, with respect to boxrec, records from that far back can be taken with a grain of salt.

 

it is probably someone from the smaller divisions and maybe just one of those alphabet titles.....but i'd say leon spinks/ali.

about 10, he fought mclarnin in his 2nd and 3rd fights which is pretty unreal

But who had the least experience? Lomachenko had about 800 rounds under his belt when he finally went pro. Who cares that it only took him three fights to win a title? The question is really who had the most natural talent to rapidly rise through the ranks, isn't it? To me that means a guy with no amateur experience to speak of, no kickboxing background, who's just a force of nature learn on the job type freak. How quickly can they go from 0 to champion? Duran had 16 amateur fights and 29 pro fights to get a title. Chavez had 15 amateur fights and gets his title 44 fights in. They were 21 and 22 respectively.

 

Using that criteria, Dwight Qawi would have possibly the least. No amateur career at all and won the LHW title in his 18th fight and with only around 100 rounds of experience.

At HW, Tim Witherspoon is worth mention.

Only 5 amateur fights, then 15 fights as a pro and he gave great Larry Holmes all he could handle (IMO, he didn't lose that fight)

Became WBC HW champion in his 19th fight.

Saensak Muangsurin won it in, I believe, his third pro fight.

 

Witherspoon was a special fighter until he started living the good life a little too much.

 

I think Ali expected to win the Spinks fight just by showing up.
One of the judges had him winning. He probably expected the novice to run out of gas after a few rounds.

I don't think he 'threw' the fight because he looked the same lazy untrained Ali who fought Jimmy Young and Evangelista.

 

Now if only Pete Rademacher had hit the target a few more times against Patterson !!
